Porangahau Branch of
Māori Women’s Welfare
League AGM, Elections
and year in Review!
Annually, the league members of Porangahau gather to review their year, plan for the future and elect their
executive. 2018 was no different. As we gathered at our AGM we remembered those that had gone before us,
the wonderful role models and the rich history of our Branch. Porangahau Branch is now into the 63rd year and
still going strong.
The election of executive saw the retirement of our wonderful President of 26 years Tangi Taiki. Her dedication
and guidance were acknowledged appreciation was shared for the work she had done while in the office of
President. It is now time for her to relax and enjoy the league as a valued life member and matriarch. Others
stood down from their positions and were also acknowledged for their contribution.
The new executive is:
President Angela Houkamau Vice President Mitarina Tipene
Secretary Tangi Taunoa Treasurer Maraea Clarke
On the first Monday of each month our branch holds either a craft day or a branch hui. You are welcome to
attend these.
Calendar of events:

2nd July 10:00am Craft Day 10:00am

If you are interested in joining our branch and working together for the benefit of our people, our community
and the league, then come along. New members are always welcome. TATAU TATAU

each potential Trustee spoke to the people. All expressed why they had
agreed to stand and what they saw as the pressing issues for them
should they become Trustees. The meeting then voted.

Newly elected Trustees were: Aimee Hutcheson, Lisa Walker, Hiraani

Hutana, Piri Galbraith and Raina Ferris. As per the Charter two trustees
remained – Helena Winiata and Graham Rapaea.

These trustees will meet in May to discuss roles and responsibilities and
to appoint their Chairperson and other executive office holders.

Work as usual – On going maintenance is being carried out as usual and

an electrician has been contracted to repair the lighting in the
wharepaku and Kere areas whilst also hard wiring the external spot light
and making recommendations for improved lighting in the wharenui.

Stocktake – A new stocktake of the contents of the wharekai has been

undertaken and will be presented to the new Trustees.

Hui-a-hapu – this was to discuss a concept plan for utilization of the

reservation between the urupa and the bridge. Some had expressed
concerns with having a building on the reservation so the idea was
shelved.

Heating – New heat pumps have been placed in Te Poho.o Kahungunu

and are wonderful for these cold evenings. The remote is a carefully
guarded item as they cost $147 to replace.
