Darkstar
The house along 3rd street had a cracked paint job and showed signs of possible termite
damage. The inside was rustic and many of the appliances needed repair. The dishwasher would
leak, the dryer would thump, and the microwave door would fall off while re-heating a bowl of
sticky rice and chicken from City Wok Chinese bistro. The Hickery family did not bother to
make any of the repairs due to the shortage of income. Not to mention they were also saving up
Miss Hickery was not a well-seasoned chef by any means. She would often cook poptarts
for dinner and even struggled with applying butter to toast. Miss Hickery was preparing a hardy
breakfast for herself. She placed the frozen hot pocket in the microwave and set the timer for 5
minutes. Miss Hickery stood closely and observed the hot pocket defrost inside the device.
However, the door on the microwave was slightly cracked and allowed electromagnetic radiation
to escape. Completely unaware, Miss Hickery still gazed into the machine. The electromagnetic
radiation penetrated the two fetuses inside her uterus. The radiation was causing mutations in
multiple coding sites along the DNA in the neural tissue of both fetuses. The mutations coded for
proteins that stimulated cellular pathways for advanced development of the brain. The mutation
were not deleterious they were advantageous. The developing brains of both fetuses grew larger,
neural cells had enhanced metabolism, branching patterns of axons and dendrites were far more
this to her. The twins were both delivered, however, the second showed no signs of life. After
multiple visits from doctors the second was pronounced dead and was properly disposed of by
the hospital. Modern medical technology could not detect the subtle signs of life in the second
fetus. The second was still alive, she had not opened her eyes nor cried because her advanced
brain was not done developing yet. Unfortunately, she was placed in a hazardous waste container
with other humanly remain out back for the waste company. That night a group of homeless men
stumbling through the hospital trash found the second baby to be alive. They selflessly took her
in and raised her. Later in her life she adopted the name, Darkstar, and hated humanity for
disposing her in the trash. Darkstar promised herself she would use her super intelligence for evil
The first born, named Sara, was taken home and within months the presence of her
superb intelligence became apparent. At 2 weeks old she said her first word, by 12 she earned
several doctoral degrees, by 13 she became the first teenager to go to space, and spent most her
time inventing gadgets and many devices. Despite being a super genius Sara looked as if she
were an average individual. She was of average height, fitness, looks, and even had an average
named: Sara. A super genius needs a look and a name to make her stand out even more she
thought. But what good would the enhanced name and appearance be with out a purpose behind
it. Sara knew she had to use her super genius to change the world and that the future of the world
lied in the minds of the youth. Unfortunately, at this time period the minds of the youth lied in
Sara had tailored a costume that resembled the classic superhero in tights but with some
slight modifications. The suite was engineered to withstand the hardships of the education
system and evil professors plotting world domination/destruction of students’ grades. The suit
was a fluorescent purple from head to toe, had a pocket protector for assorted pens and pencils,
build in pencil sharpener, wifi access for web browsing, built in scantron grader, a computer
algebraic system, and butt warmers just incase a things get a little chilly. Most importantly her
superhero name was Calculon, which was embroidered on the front of her tights in silver.
It didn’t take long for word to reach Calculon about the work of an evil professor at a
university in Colorado. She was informed that this professor was working under the name of
Darkstar in the physics department. Darkstar had not passed a single student in 10 years,
constructed mind control devices to trick management into keeping her employed, and planned
to shoot out the sun with a quantum mass generator that would literally turn the sun dark.
Calculon did some research on the college town to find a way to fit in while she gained a vantage
point on Darkstar.
Upon arriving at the campus, Calculon mounted her fixie bike and road to the physics
building carrying her backpack filled with mason jars. Just to be safe she wore her superhero suit
underneath an ironic hipster T-shirt. Calculon had received intel at a vintage record shop near
campus, from a man with a bizarre hair bun and ironic flying V. mustache that Darkstar held a
phys 2020 lecture at 3 p.m. This is exactly where she was headed. Before crossing Kolorado
Ave. at Pholsom St. Calculon was confronted by an officer of the law. Calculon had instantly
thought Darkstar used her evil intelligence to manipulate the law into working for her in order to
protect her diabolical experiments. However, this was not the case, the officer wanted to see a
student I.D. which was needed to enter campus on this very specific day of April 20th. Calculon
into the physics building just in time to snag a seat in the back before the lecture started. Darkstar
appeared from a door in the back. The sound of her black German war like boots hit the floor and
echoed though the lecture hall as she approached the podium. She wore a black cape that
resembled bat wings and it swayed in the air brushing by as she stomped through the classroom.
A section of her hair had a white streak that was highlighted by the black dye of the rest of her
hair. The most notable feature was the size of her head. Calculon concluded her brain must be far
more developed than hers and that Darkstar’s skull grew to accommodate for the increased brain
volume. Even more shocking than then size of her head was the gigantic vein that ran down
Darkstar’s landing strip sized forehead. From the back of the room Calulon could see the vein
pulsing due to the contraction of the tricuspid and bicuspid valves in Darkstar’s heart.
Darkstar initiated lecture by reviewing the last exam scores and question. Not one student
scored above 30% and the questions were all graduate level. Darkstar proceeded class by
himmulating a student after he failed to apply Newton’s 3rd law to a difficult problem. The evil
professor then pulled out a hand crank generator and told the students if they could keep their
fingers on the electrodes for 5 seconds while she cranks it they would not have to take the final.
A brave student made the attempt but 200 volts from the generator caused local nerve damage
and the student ripped his hand back in tears. “No one else, is no one brave enough” Darkstar
shouted at the classroom. Calculon also noticed Darkstar would occasionally shine her laser
pointer, intended for educational purpose only, in the students eyes while she tried to hide her
After lecture Calulon performed some reconsince to see what exactly Darkstar was
working on in her lab. Calulon stumbled upon the quantum mass generator Darkstar was
planning to use to shoot out the sun. The quantum mass generator would be launched into the
sun where is would assemble matter increasing the suns mass. The force of gravity due to the
increased mass of the sun would be so great not even light could escape. The mass generator
would essentially turn the sun into a black hole that would swallow the Earth thus destroying
humanity. Darkstar didn’t care if the Earth got swallowed she hated humanity for throwing her
in the trash and wanted mankind exterminated. Calulon had to defeat her but how, her brain was
far more advanced. Calculon knew she could not attack Darkstar directly. Darkstar would be ten
steps ahead and then once within her vicinity Calculon could become a victim of Darkstar’s
Calculon had come to destroy the evil professor but to also help the youth become
educated. She had used her super genius to develop learning models and methods to help
students learn at what seemed like synthetically enhanced rates. Calculon became a popular tutor
for the Darkstar’s student over the past couple weeks, perhaps too popular. Her students
intelligence had increased 100 fold in a short amount of time. Calulon sent the tutored students
into the next exam knowing they would succeed and hoped that some how this might lead to a
fighting chance to destroy Darkstar. The day of the exam Darkstar had come across flyers for
tutoring Calculon had posted and became suspicious. Darkstar already had tutors for her students
but these tutors were under mind control and designed to fail the students.
After the exam was taken, Calulon was in the grading room awaiting the results in hopes
to see that her tutoring helped. Unexpectedly, Darkstar appeared in the door jam behind
Calculon. Calculon could hear the intense breathing of the enemy behind her. “How did you find
me,” Calulon said. “I had reason to suspect there was someone on the inside trying to destroy me
when I came across a tutoring flyer. I am ten steps, if not 100 steps ahead of everybody. I
suppose next you will try to destroy my quantum mass generator huh,” Calulon was now within
the grasps of Darkstar, she was moving towards the event horizon.
Calculon turned to face Darkstar and presented the graded scantron of one of the students
she tutored. “What do you present me with, another student that I had purposely failed.” Darkstar
caught the glimpse of the scantron score and saw that the student received a perfect score.
Darkstar’s grim face frozen in amazement that a student had not only passed but passed the exam
with a perfect score. Her cheeks turned red with anger while steam boiled out of her ears. The
vein on her forehead grew larger and began to pulse aggressively as Darkstar’s heart rate
increased. Darkstar’s blood pressure skyrocketed and the vein popped. It popped like a teenager
busting a super zit on a mirror. Blood shot out of the vein and hit Calculon. So much blood that
Calculon was drenched. Darkstar fall to the floor as the vital red fluid leaked from her face. She
flopped like a fish on deck on the exam room floor as every drop drained. Darkstar lay
motionless and without a heart beat. Calculon knew Darkstar could not emotionally uphold the
sight of a student passing her exam; it would destroy her. For now the Earth was safe from the
evil professor and the quantum mass generator but more evil professors may lurk within
university basements and labs across the globe. Calculon’s work is far from over she is now
