Oral Classroom Presentation Reflection
On November 14, 2017, I presented my research presentation for Mrs. Chamness’ 3rd period
G/T biology class. It was a class of all freshman and most of them I did not know, however, I did
know a few students. There were around 30 people in the audience during the presentation in
room 251. If I could redo my presentation I would try to speak more slowly and turn my eye
contact towards all parts of the room. I think that, while I slowed down from my last
presentation, I might have been talking a little too fast still. Although, judging off of the
evaluation sheet that I received after the presentation, it doesn’t appear that I was talking too fast
for the audience to understand. In addition, I gave good eye contact and barely looked at the
presentation slides, however, because of the setup of the room and the desks, I was standing at a
weird angle in comparison to some of the students on the far side of the room. I think that I was
not able to make eye contact with them as much as I could have, nor could they see the
presentation slides as well as I would hope they could. However, the audience seemed to really
like the presentation and had commentary about my topic. They thought that I explained terms
and concepts really clearly and that I engaged them with my introduction and conclusion
descriptions. I think I did a nice job of speaking loud and clear enough for comprehension and
that I had a logical flow to my ideas in the presentation. Since my first classroom presentation
last week, I think I was able to change my speaking rate, slowing down more so that the audience
could understand the words. In addition, I think I was more prepared and rehearsed rather than
memorized so that the presentation sounded more natural. I hope that I can continue to slow
down so that I don't sound like I am constantly lecturing throughout the presentation during the
next one.
