The salt and light

Our distinguished General Pio del Pilar National High School principal, Ms. Lilybeth
Sagmaquen, dear teachers and students, guests: Good evening.

It is with an extra dose of joy and excitement that I join you in this very memorable
event in a high school student’s life — the Junior-Senior prom night.

My dear grade 10 students, it is only a month or two before you graduate and move
forward to senior high school. Thus, take this chance to create good memories with
your classmates, friends, and teachers, which years from now you can recall with joy
and fondness.

Likewise, take the time to become more acquainted with grade 9 students, as they will
be the ones to continue your good leadership and projects in your campus.

To my beloved grade 9 students, this is the perfect time for you to get to know one
another. I am positive that your prom night will strengthen your friendship with your
seniors and peers in school.

May the ceremonial lighting of the candle be a constant reminder that each of you is
empowered to be the salt and light in your respective families, schools, and
communities.

Just like salt which is an essential ingredient in making the world’s best dishes, be
indispensable at home by becoming a role model, by simply honoring God and your
parents with your obedience.

Likewise, be the light in your school—shining and inspiring fellow students with your
persistence and excellence in your studies. Always, choose to influence them
positively.

At this point, I know that you are all excited to have your first dance, so I am now giving
you the stage. I congratulate in advance those who will win the ‘best attire’ award.
Enjoy your prom nite!

God bless and good evening!

Juniors, you are the inheritors of the strong and proud legacy of our school.
Being the next batch of Seniors, you will continue the cycle of high school
life. On your shoulders lies the responsibility of being the role model where
underclassmen will look upon to you as their big brothers and sisters. You
will continue our unfinished tasks as we sail to discover new world. Juniors,
strive to hone your skills and traits of being the leader and role model of the
younger students of our school.
Respect and utilized also the wisdom that you have learned from us, from our
experiences and successes because we have come before you and had
crossed this difficult stage of being the Seniors.

Fellow Seniors, invested me with responsibilities as being the class leader.

At this juncture, it is my honor and privilege to pass on to you, Juniors, the
mantle of responsibilities. We have done our part and it is now the time to
relinquished it on to you.

Each mantle bears the weight of task. Put it on, and carry its weight, and go
on with the journey. We knew that you are willing and able to continue the
cycle of work that we are going to left behind.

This turning over of mantle does not mean that we turned our back toward
the school. It only marks the beginning of our greater responsibility toward
our Alma Mater as well as the community.
We have a vision for our school -- a vision of greatness. I exhort you, all of
you, Juniors to nurture this vision as I passed this mantle of responsibilities
on to you. May each and every one of you will fulfill your roles and
commitments with honor, passion and pride.
The indefatigable school administrators, the dynamic faculty and staff of this school, loving parents,
the diligent students of this school who are so beautiful and dashing tonight, guests, dear friends,
ladies and gentlemen, a pleasant evening to all. It gives me great High pleasure School. to be with
you at re- ___________________ These surroundings enforce the power of God and the ability of
human beings to use knowledge to create beauty and give joy to society. The Junior-Senior
Promenade is one of the most anticipated events of a high school student. For us who have already
experienced it, it reminds us of a rare ocassion where we are all dressed beautifully and dashingly
that at one moment one turns into a prince or a princess. It is the day for one to have his or her first
dance, his or her first date, his or for her first puppy or perhaps true love. For many JS-Promenade
means a day for the hearts. Well, it might be true, for it is a part of high school life, a part of growing
up into an adult or a mature person. However, it should always be remembered that JS Prom is
more than this. On a serious note, it entails a passing. For the Seniors, they shall now pass their
class will and testament, the key of responsibility and the class prophecy. For the Juniors, they have
to formally accept tonight these legacies. Tonight, we are to realize that the Seniors soon are going
to the next step of their educational journey, college life and the Juniors will take over whatever
responsibilities they have left. They are to continue the legacy that their elders have given them.
Well, it's not an easy one. It's tough, but let us all wish them luck so that soon the Juniors will also
become the Seniors who in the next year shall pass their own legacy. Tonight we realize that each of
us have to face our own responsibilities no matter ho hard, no matter how distant it's realization
might be, no matter what hardships we must face for after all no quitter wins. No ocean is crossed
until we sail, no victories ever won without a fight. To the Seniors good luck to your new adventure in
life. May you leave good legacies to the lower years so that they may also follow your footsteps to
success. To the Juniors don't be afraid to accept the responsibilities. Very soon you will be able to
finish all your goals and pass the legacy on to the next batch. To the faculty and staff of

successful holding of this program, I salute you all for a job well done. This is another success. May
we continue to inspire our students to become responsible citizens of our community for it is in the
schools that we harness our students to their highest potentials. It has been a pleasure to be with
you tonight. Thank you so much. I hope I have left an inspiration not only to the students but to all of
us who are here tonight.
