Dr. Minhas did his PhD in 2014 from Colorado State University,
USA on a Fulbright scholarship in the field of bioinformatics.
He has used Python to develop large scale applications in
Bioinformatics, Machine Learning, Parallel, distributed and GPU
computing, Android apps, Visualization, Hardware interfacing
and scientific programming.

Programming using Python
Python is a free, cross-platform high level pro-
gramming language that allows for cleaner soft-
ware development, fast prototyping and sup-
ports multiple coding paradigms under one roof.
Being one of the most popular programming
languages amongst researchers and software
developers alike, its online code base offers
state of the art libraries in areas like computer
security, parallel
computing, networks,
computer vision, bio-
informatics, applied
mathematics and physics, web applications,
android and iOS development etc. It also in-
cludes a powerful set of built-in libraries which
enable the developer to code much faster in
comparison to C/C++.
This hands-on short course in a series of cer-
tificate courses, aims to introduce Python to
programmers who have experience in another
programming language. This course will enable
you to learn a new programming language which
can then be used in your research and develop-
ment tasks. It will open avenues for improving
the productivity of you research and software
development while reducing costs in compari-
son to using proprietary programming lan-
guages such as Matlab, Visual Basic, C# etc.
