CONCLUSION

The objective of the experiment is to measure the uniaxial compressive strength of rock
sample in the form of specimen of regular geometry. The uniaxial compressive strength of a
rock is a measurement of the highest stress that a rock specimen can carry when a
unidirectional stress is applied. The weight, width, depth and length of the sample must first be
calculated in order to get the volume of the samples. By using the Universal Testing
Machine(UTM), we obtained load at failure, P(kN) of the rocks. Load at failure is considered
when more than 50% of sample by volume is broken.

The sample then proceed to undergo the hydraulic compression test. The sample must
be placed between the two platens of the machine, and the samples must be smooth and
straight. After that, set the program to produce load-time graph and stress-strain graph. The
hydraulic compression machine will stop immediately if the rock sample has failed. The data
then can be received from the program and saved. When all the data is concluded, the Uniaxial
Compression Strength can be calculated by ( failure load at failure ),P/ (cross sectional area of
sample)A. Then, tabulate the data according to their result and tabulate it.
