Title: An analysis on Stay-Over Tourist Arrivals in 2014 and 2015 in Barbados

Purpose:

Tourism plays an important role in the economy of Barbados. The tourism industry

provides the main source of foreign exchange, economic activity and employment of

Barbados.

Tourism increases the availability of jobs for local people for example tour guides and

hotel managers, chefs etc. Also the construction of new hotels further creates jobs for

locals.

Local infrastructure would also be improved for example roads, water and

telecommunications.

Tourism has become even such a bigger deal to the island that the government has

begun offering incentives to hoteliers for example Sandals at the beginning of January

2015 and duty free cars for taxi drivers.

The aim/objectives of the study are: -

o To determine if said incentives have helped with the tourism industry

o To determine the times of the year tourist view as the most preferable times to

visit the island

o To compare the summers of both years

Method of Data Collection:

An online website which contained statistics (www.barstats.gov.bb) was used to obtain

data for the study. The statistics include Stay-Over Arrivals for 2014 and 2015 in

Barbados along with other countries for that same time period.

 The lower quartile for stay over tourist arrivals in 2014 was 362835 while the

upper quartile was 491325 and the inter quartile range was 128490.
