POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Job Title: Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist (Central America), TREES Program, Sustainable
Forestry Division
Reports To: Regional Manager, Central America & Caribbean Region, TREES Program, Sustainable

Location: Guatemala City, Guatemala

The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and

The Rainforest Alliance’s TREES (Training, Extension, Enterprises and Sourcing) program promotes
sustainable livelihoods and protects biodiversity in forest-dependent communities. We work to enhance the
competitiveness of community and indigenous forestry enterprises by building business skills, increasing
efficiencies, and facilitating investment in value-added processing, expanding income opportunities from wood
and non-wood forest products and environmental services, and increasing access to local and global markets
through Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Regional Manager, Central America & Caribbean Region, the Monitoring and
Evaluation Specialist will maintain the monitoring and evaluation systems for the TREES Program in Central
America. S/he will be responsible for the collection and analysis of data for all project and internal Forestry
Division wide indicators, development of case studies and written “success stories” as appropriate, as well as
coordinating with the Evaluation and Research Program of the Rainforest Alliance. S/he will also provide
information required for the weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports required by the different donors.

This Specialist will support the central activities for the following projects: Forestry Enterprises in Guatemala
(FEG) and Forest Climate Communities Alliance (FCCA) in Honduras and focused in increasing
competitiveness for the forestry small and medium enterprises (SME’s) to improve the market position of the
two countries; also, this position will also reinforce the TREES Program activities currently implemented in
Nicaragua.

Responsibilities:
• Work closely with field teams to coordinate the collection, analysis, and interpretation of the Program’s
performance results and geographic information from the region;
• Support and provide quality control for the collection and analysis of project indicators and the Forestry
Division global indicators;
• Review current monitoring data collecting system and work with project and regional teams to improve
systems and finalize a centralized data collection center;
• Input new data collected from the field and provide monthly monitoring and evaluation system updates;
• Coordinate with the Evaluation and Research team to produce maps and provide the information required for
case studies;
• With guidance from the Regional Manager, Central America & Caribbean and Coordinators in Guatemala,
Honduras and Nicaragua, produce progress reports for donor funded projects according to the timeframes
required by each project;
• Provide information for proposals and technical reports; and
• Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
• University Degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Economics, Social Sciences ,
or a related field;
• Statistics and geographic information systems experience;
• Minimum 2-5 years of proven experience in monitoring and evaluation;
• Strong data analysis skills;
• Strong computers skills (MS Office, including MS Access or another database, and Internet);
• Capacity to respond to multi-task demands and work under tight deadlines;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish;
• Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills; and
• Ability and willingness to travel at least 20% of the time.
