Impact of Requirement Management in IoTs

Requirements management is the cornerstone of successful IoT

Impact of Requirement Management in IoTs

Introduction:
For every organization it is critical of success to utilize the available resources in right
dimension. For ensuring project success requirement management is key to business process.
Requirement Management is a complex process of eliciting requirements, management, tracking,
change and version control, documenting and communicating requirements.

IoTs refers to devices that collect and transmit data via internet. IoTs also refers to “Network of
connected things”; people-people, people-things, things and things connection. The Internet of
Things are constantly connected devices; sensors, smartphones, embodied systems to Internet for
a broad range of functions, makes the system more complex and requirement management must
be considered.

Problem statement:
It is found that more than half of the projects are failed due to poor requirement management.
About 50-60% malfunction are lead because of poor requirement Management, rather than the
problem of coding and development team [1].

IoTs leads to high levels of complexity. To handle the complexity of a connected IoTs not
enough easy without requirement management consideration. So managing requirements for
IoTs complex products is a challenging task. Dealing with IoTs more requirements management
efforts require, starting with requirements. Heterogeneity of IoTs is key factor for more focusing on
requirement management [2].

Future Work Directions:

1. The Goal is to develop a framework that contributes to improve the process, method and
techniques of requirement management in context of IoTs to maximize the probability of
project success.
2. Considering a IoTs software package from the market as a case study for the task of
Software requirement Management. This Study should statistically quantify the possible
parameters to maximize the probability of project success.

IoT introduces new levels of product complexity. To be successful, it is to manage this complexity.
Getting it right starts with the requirements. IoT creates new considerations for defining and managing
requirements.
Connected products are too complex to risk teams working with outdated requirements. Development
efforts require a higher level of rigor, starting with requirements. At the same time processes must be
agile so that problems are found early. With sophisticated approaches to requirements management,
teams will have an advantage when developing IoT enabled products.
