Health Care Reform

Health Care is a very controversial topic, should everyone be entitled to it or not? Should

the Affordable Care Act be repealed or not? There are many people who are being insured and

covered, even those who do not want to be. It is the belief that this Act should be repealed, in

favor of people making their own choices and it may not be saving as many lives as you think,

and the expenses are only getting higher.

According to the article, “Obama’s Health-Care Audacity”, it states “Obama also

claimed that,

"23 million Americans would lose insurance" if the GOP bill passes. But how can that

be, since only 10 million people get coverage through the ObamaCare exchanges?

Further, how many of those people want insurance in the first place? The CBO says that

‘in 2018, 15 million more people would be uninsured under this legislation than under

current law -- primarily because the penalty for not having insurance would be

eliminated.’” (Rove, 9)

This quote is ideally saying that even people with health care, do not necessarily want it still

have it. The GOP bill is pretty much like a tax cut for businesses. And it is important because

because now knowing this, repealing the act and ObamaCare would yes, affect some, but no, not

all because they do not want to be under the current law and Americans do need the choice.

Another idea that is still being researches is that many lives are not being saved by just

because someone has health care, and it is the belief we repeal but not replace ObamaCare, and

the Affordable Health Care Act. In an article titled, “Repeal but Not Replace,” it demonstrates

the qualities of how,

“Congress should repeal ObamaCare but not replace it. Congress then could move

forward with Pres. Donald Trump's tax reform measures, lowering corporate and

individual rates to trigger an economic boom. In addition to the Administration's slated

reductions in taxation would come a tax reform measure to encourage private action to

care for those who cannot afford health insurance or the care they need.” (Emord, 6)

This quote is saying that we do not have to exactly have to replace the Obama Care act but we

should we repeal it to focus more on Trump’s tax reform measures. This is important because

the article also goes on to mention how this tax reform would be the free-market replacement

called for by the electorate. And money would be restored to private hands and individual

patients would be empowered by the tax plan.

In the article, “Is ObamaCare a Lifesaver?” it displays how some take issue with how

people feel with Republicans voting yes to repeal the act, that they are saying “Make America

sick again” and that they feel they will be killing people who relied on the Affordable Care Act

for drugs and surgery and treatment. Indeed, this perspective overlooks that there is a big link

between health and health care and not everyone is being saved and a lot healthier just because

they are covered. But this is not entirely true. It is hard, because as said in the article, “The link

between health insurance and actual health has always been a lot murkier than most champions

of universal coverage admit, with studies going back decades that show little evidence that

giving people insurance actually makes them healthier.” (Douthat, 5) This is saying that health

care does help people but there is not any evidence showing that being covered and insured

makes you healthier. Also this is important because within that article they go on to say that

there was a study that showed the expansion of health benefits of newly insured people, and they

found that really no one’s physical health had improved.

The article, “National Health Spending to Surpass $10,000 A Person in 2016,” talks

about how much money we are spending on individuals each year, it states, “The administration,

in a report published in the journal Health Affairs, predicts that the pace of health spending will

pick up in the coming decade, driven by improvements in the economy, higher medical prices

and the aging of the people born from 1946 to 1964.” (Pear, 3) This is saying that amount we are

spending on Health Care is only increasing over the years for everyone, whether they are

wanting to be covered or not. A reason for this being important is that,

“The new report, by career employees at the Department of Health and Human Services,

suggests another factor that may moderate the growth of health spending: Consumers are

wary of using doctors' services because they face higher out-of-pocket costs, including

higher deductibles and co-payments.” (Pear, 13)

Therefore, repealing the Affordable Care Act would increase more of the tax increases that were

imposed. It will also lower their healthcare costs.

It is still apparent that many support the act of repealing the Affordable Care Act. These

beliefs are based on the researches found and supported throughout the years. Despite others

opinions to the contrary, the Affordable Care Act being repealed will continue to remain being

supported by the beliefs of many.
