CHAPTER THREE

METHODOLOGY

Introduction: the research design, profile of the study area, sampling

techniques and data analysis procedures were discussed in this chapter.
Research design; quantitative research design is the design to be used.
This design will enable us to find answers to our clearly defined research
questions.

Study Area ; the study area is Asanta, a town in the Elembelle District of
Western Region. Asanta is located along the Esiama - Takoradi high way.
It is found in between the Ankroba Township and Bobrama township. The
major occupations of the women in Asanta are fish monging, trading and
farming.
Study Population; The study population include all women aged 15 to
50 years. These women must all be residents of Asanta.

Sample size and sampling technique; a total of 30 pregnant women will

be selected for the study. Purposive random sampling will be employed in
selecting these women to avoid being bias.

Data collection instruments; data collection will be done by the use of

structured interviewing questionnaires. This instrument will be pre-tested
on a section of women selected at random from Asanta.
Ethical consideration; the women selected for the study will be allowed
to decide whether or not to answer the questionnaires. They will also be
assured of confidentiality as well as anonymity.

Data analysis; the data collected with the structured interviewing

questionnaires will be analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2010 and IBM®
Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. The results
will be presented in tables and charts and then the discussion will follow.
