WHY SMR ?

• The purpose of a Surface Movement Radar (SMR) is to maximize

safety in airports by allowing Air Traffic Controllers to monitor,
advice, and instruct aircraft, vehicles, personnel etc. moving on
the ground.

• A Radar is very suitable to cover a large area and operates

independently of light conditions (day/night), visibility
conditions e.g. fog, and possible precipitation e.g. rain and snow.

• Terma SCANTER 5502 SMR have easy integration into the airport’s
Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-
SMGCS) as the primary non-corporative surveillance sensor.

FUNCTIONALITIES – FREQUENCY/TIME DIVERSIT Y

• Programmable frequencies within the X-band (9.0-9.5 GHz)

• Up to 16 sub bands
• SMR: 2+2 chirps (short/long pulses) with different frequencies. Total
4 frequencies separated by >=80 dB
• Improved Frequency Diversity and second time around suppression
• Frequency and Time Diversity reduce fluctuation of desirable
targets a increased S/N ratio
Rotation

• Improved target detection in bad

weather conditions
• Swerling case 1 targets is seen as
Swerling case 2-3 targets
• 16 on-site programmable profiles F1 t +

Functionalities – Sector Power Control
• Control transmitted power in sectors incl. blanking (up to 16
sectors / attenuation up to 15 dB)
• Reducing undesirable illumination of e.g. populated areas
• Sector blanking - Prohibit, Transmit or reduced power
• Reducing implications of spectrum pricing
• Increase robustness against interference
between radar stations
• Reducing risk of Multi Path Reflection
and Ghost Echoes

CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION
S C A N T E R 1 0 0 2 & C A M E R A’ S

CIP is the fastest and most precise way of detecting, identifying, and tracking
both internal and external perimeter threats in areas where business continuation
is a matter of national importance

AUTOMATIC THREAT DETECTION, IDENTIFICATION AND TRACKING

The CIP system ensures that all relevant events are automatically detected,
analyzed, prioritized, and presented according to severity - allowing the operator
to focus his attention on things that matter whilst the system sorts the action
from distraction. The system is designed to provide the means of identifying and
tracking a threat, not just detecting and classifying it.

EARLY WARNING
In most crisis situations, events escalate quickly and unpredictably. Every second
counts, as you frantically try to both understand and regain control of the
situation. Time and control are the two key factors when emphasis is on
preventing a disaster from happening. CIP has been designed to greatly enhance
this capability, by presenting only relevant and accurate early warning information
to your operator. This logical and automatically presented information allows
reaction in the least amount of time possible
