Intellectual Property Rights: A Management Perspective

Weekly Agenda

The key learning goals for each week are listed below:-

Week 1

In week 1, the focus will be on understanding the broad spectrum of Intellectual Property Rights along
with their definitions. We will trace the historical origins of Intellectual Property Rights, discuss the
International presence of Intellectual Property Rights and know about its evolution. The reflection of
this week will be on usage of various terms associated with Intellectual Property Rights.

Week 2

In week 2, we will explore the detailed categories of the Intellectual Property Rights to learn their
characteristics, similarities and differences and differentiate them from another. This week will not only
illustrate but also demonstrate the identification of the major types of Intellectual Properties around us.

Week 3

In week 3, we will analyse the impact of Intellectual Property and rights associated to them on the
strategic and competitive aspects of the business. It will entail various methods of evaluating Intellectual
Properties and their application in real-time cases. This week will also assess the presence of Intellectual
Property on the Balance sheets, their management and their auditing.

Week 4

In week 4, after theorizing various aspects of Intellectual Property, we will draw light on another facet
to the Intellectual Property Rights, i.e., the arena of Public Policy. This will present a contrasting
comparison on Intellectual Property Rights from the opinions of Not-for-Profit and Civil Society
Organizations.

Week 5

In week 5, as opposed to mere abstract inferences, we will reflect on the interpretation and
implementation of Intellectual Property Rights by experts and professionals working in the field through
an array of interviews.
