Implementation and Operation

In the implementation and operation stage, the company will follow through with the
plan by establishing responsibilities, training, communication, documentation,
operating procedures, and an emergency plan to ensure that environmental targets
are met.
4.4.1: Structure of Environmental Management Organization

In this part, an organization need to present the company organizational chart which
clearly define the EMS organization structure. The structure shall be as flexible as
possible, while ensuring that it is comprehensive. Next, identify the major staff and its
role in EMS development and implementation. The duty and responsibility of each
responsible personnel under EMS need to define which includes the position of Top
Management.

4.4.2: Training Awareness and Competence

This part describes of an organisation's staff and persons working on behalf of the
organization (e.g. contractors), plan and evaluate training effectiveness regarding
EMS and related matters.

4.4.3: Communication

For this section, an organization needs to describe the communication channels for
environmental issues, highlight the effectiveness of two-way internal and external
communication promotes environmental awareness.

4.4.4: Environmental Management System Documentation

In this section, an organization needs to describe the EMS documentation structure


and how the pieces fit together. The EMS manual also need to establish, maintain
and control to outline the elements and function of EMS and to provide the direction
to related documentation. The environmental manual and other related EMS
documentation shall be documented in hard copies (printed in papers) and/or soft
copies (electronic media) wherever applicable.

4.4.5: Document Control

ISO 14001 requires an organization to provide a clearly defined source of documents


for employees who should be aware of and understand all relevant environmental
significant procedures and practices. In this section, an organization needs to
describe the requirements on control mechanism on its EMS documents to ensure
that everyone works with the right tools.
4.4.6: Operational Control

Operational Controls are one of the means through which an organisation's EMS can
control its significant environmental aspects (SEAs). In this section, an organisation
needs to describe how their EMS build environmental performance into it operations
and activities.
4.4.7: Emergency Preparedness and Response

An organisation needs to implement emergency preparation and procedures to


respond to unplanned events in order to mitigate, reduce, and/or eliminate the
environmental health and safety impacts. The emergency situation and the impacts
shall be identified during the identification of significant aspect and impacts.
