To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Katie Green, English teacher in the Pre-Medical CTE pathway at Windsor High School,
and it is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Gillian Day. I have had the
privilege of getting to know Gillian as her English teacher during both her junior and senior years of
high school, an experience that has led me to believe that she is a model student and person who
would be an ideal recipient of this scholarship.

Gillian is an outstanding student: intelligent, focused, and one of the most dynamic leaders to have
ever walked through my classroom doors. She is curious and inquisitive, relishes the opportunity to be
challenged, and combines a thirst for knowledge with an uncanny desire and ability to apply it. Add to
these traits her incomparable work-ethic, willingness to take initiative, and positive approach to all
stages of the learning process, and one begins to scratch the surface of why Gillian has emerged as one
of my strongest English/Language Arts students. It has been a joy to assess her work, to observe her
keen, analytical prowess, and to witness her peers as they learn from her example.

Because the WHS Pre-Med program seeks to prepare students for careers in health and public safety,
we demand that students not only demonstrate unwavering integrity, but also hone their passion for
helping others. Gillian not only embodies these qualities but has demonstrated a genuine commitment
to pursuing a career in pediatric oncology. She has shadowed in a variety of departments at Santa Rosa
Memorial Hospital, including pediatrics, oncology, cardiac and trauma. She also volunteers as a youth
soccer coach for kids with disabilities and has participated in the Music is Memory program for
Alzheimer’s patients at Healdsburg Senior Living. These examples do not merely demonstrate
Gillian’s interest in the medical field; they also illustrate her desire to work with high-needs
populations, highlighting the special brand of tenacity, courage, and compassion that defines her
character.

Though she is a gifted student and natural leader, what truly sets Gillian apart from her peers is the
way she combines her natural poise and confidence with such a generous, compassionate spirit. I have
no doubt that she is on her way to becoming a successful college student, a critical, conscientious
adult, and a respected member of the medical community. I would highly recommend that she be
awarded this scholarship. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss further.

Sincerely,

Katie Green
