bout the activities: Over 100 students from Poornaprajna High School were invited to

engage in different activities. NSD activities were started with the inauguration.

Professor Dipankar Chatterji, Chair and Managing Trustee of the tAcT and President of

the Indian Academy of Sciences inaugurated the NSD celebrations. In his inaugural

address, Professor Dipankar Chatterji recalled many scientific contribution of Sir C V

Raman. He urged the students to develop scientific temper and to apply it in their

everyday life. After the inauguration of NSD, students were engaged in activities.

Demonstration of Science Models: Science model exhibits in science fair mode are

organised by Agastya to reach out to a large group ofchildren. Using simple science

models, 14 to 16 year old young instructors demonstrate phenomena such as solar and

lunar eclipse, seasonal changes, concepts such as pressure and volume relationship

and the protein chainsthat link together to form insulin. These science model

exhibitions, in addition totargeting a large audience of children serve as a platform to

encourageyoung instructors to demonstrate programs to their peers (peer-to-peer

learning). This facilitates greater interaction and understanding of concepts, boosts

confidence and improves their communication skills.During the session, students were

divided into two batches. The first batch visited the display and demonstration of

interactive science models and exhibits by peer students which explained basic science

concepts of Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
