A sensitive and intelligent young dog was a
1 18 lonely stray when he found his way to Animal

His happy temperament warmed everyone at the
4 21 shelter through the blizzards of February and the
thaw of March. But the combination of Saturday
5 22 snow closings and holidays really put a crimp on
adoptions. The long confinement is tough on any
6 23
dog and Klutch was no exception. He soon devel-
7 24 oped a stress-aggravated skin condition, and his coat began to thin in patches. While
the staff and volunteers loved his antics, playing keep-away with his toys and chasing
8 25 snow-flakes like a puppy, his appearance was getting worse and potential adopters were
staying away.
9 26 Confusion and disagreement over Klutch’s breed made for further challenges to his
10 27 adoption. While no one could be certain what his ancestry contains, everyone agreed
he was an extraordinary dog. But as the weeks wore on, it was clear that his innocent
11 28 soul, through no fault of his own, was in trouble.
Finally, an Animal Advocates volunteer stepped forward to take him home as a fos-
12 29 ter dog. AAHC provided vet care for his skin, his neutering and covered the cost of
13 30 the healthy food he needed to recover. As soon as he arrived at the foster home he fell
in love with a dainty dog bed much too small for him where he would curl up and chew
14 31 a rawhide in bliss.
This little smarty-pants was quickly housetrained and learned sit, stay and paw-paw
15 32 in minutes. His fur filled back in and became shiny. His foster parents often get admir-
16 33 ing comments about his handsome Boxer looks and striking brindle coat. He is gentle
to every dog he meets, regardless of their age or size. Klutch loves to give kisses. His
17 TOTAL $: head tilts are precious. Any interesting sound and even dandelion fluff in the breeze
brings out that classic expression of canine wonder.
Klutch’s now happy story of hope could have been very different. There are many
