DREAM WORLD CUP 2018

The 2nd World Futsal Championship for People with Mental Health Problems

13 - 16 May 2018
Rome, Italy

OFFICIAL INVITATION
To the Chilean Delegation

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

As President of the International Football Committee on Mental Health (IFCMH), I have the pleasure

to invite your National Team to participate in the “Dream World Cup 2018”, the 2nd World Futsal
Championship for People with Mental Health Problems to be held in Rome from 13 to 16 May 2018.

The Dream World Cup is powered by the European Culture and Sport Organization (ECOS) and is
under the patronage of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the Italian Futsal division (Divisione
calcio a 5) and the National Olympic Committee (CONI).
INTRODUCTION

The 2nd Futsal World Cup will be held in order to promote football for people with mental health
problems. The promotion of mental health is normally related to the good functioning of the mind
and the brain in their psychological, emotional and intellectual activities. We often forget that the
mind/body dichotomy is an epistemological and scientific artifact. Indeed, poor physical health
often leads to mental health problems, and psychiatric disorders usually lead to bad physical
conditions.
Sport - and football in particular - is an effective instrument for the protection of mental health and
the improvement of physical and psychological wellbeing, thanks to the synchronous activation of
body and mind, and to the powerful effects of socialisation. Moreover, it is an important bearer of
human values essential for the strengthening of personality - especially in vulnerable and fragile
situations - and for the social cohesion.
The Dream World Cup for people with mental health problems is the opportunity to give them a
healthy socio-psychological rehabilitation.
The preparation and training of each participating country will be object of study and research in
order to improve the entire movement of “Rehabilitation through Sport”.

must dress the relevant national color.

• National flag and anthem: all the teams will provide their national flag and the anthem that will
be played before every match.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All the teams composed of people with mental health problems who are diagnosed with the
International Classification of Disease (WHO) in the F2 and F3 areas (areas of affective and psychotic
disorders) will be eligible to participate. Each team will be invited to deploy people with different
levels of “recovery” of their own personal capabilities (one player totally recovered and with no
pharmacological treatment and the remaining players with different levels of treatment). To enable
people of different degrees to participate and to ensure homogeneity between the different teams
is proposed the following classification:

• “fully recovered” (people completely recovered from mental health problems belonging to the
considered diagnostic categories);

• “in maintenance treatment” (people in treatment of continuous pharmacological or

psychological or psychosocial support);

• “in extensive treatment” (people in treatment, with a long-term or long-lasting pharmacological

or psychological or psychosocial support);

• “in intensive treatment” (people with acute and subacute treatment in residential facilities);

• “not compliant with treatments” (people who sometimes recognize their own disorder but have
great difficulty in following paths of treatment).
