Dissension Essay

Faced with a conflicting situation, reaching a common consent is tedious and requires problem

solving. There’s also the option to shield oneself away from problems; to hide from with no intent to

participate. Dissension is a growing problem in itself. To hide in a shell at signs of disagreement or

complication only proves that: Dissension has become a problematic, easy way out of conflicting

situations.

Lack of involvement negatively affects everyday life. Even in modern government’s modern use

of democracy relies heavily on participation. In politics, increasing declines of voters create less stable or

reliable decisions made in laws or presidential choices. The increasing loss of voters is due to their

unwillingness to participate, or even to understand their vitality in the decision made by each individual.

Expanding skipping of issues causes a lack of problem solving having not exercised such skills. A society

of poor problem solvers would result in over-reliant citizens and controversial issues would never be

resolved. People must face conflicts and difficult decisions, in order to learn from them.

One may be guilty of dissension in everyday life, myself included. Not all of my family members

would make the best decisions, yet due to stress of the situation I would dismiss myself from the

situation as a whole. I am guilty myself, in not contributing to issues I have witnessed to the mere sake

of “not wanting to deal with it”. Silent speakers are just as guilty as crime committers, for if one is not

aiding in resolving an issue then they are only making it worse. Just as easily as those people I’ve known
could have gotten away with their foolish acts, other people could get away with more serious crimes

with lack of witnessed evidence.

Another case when silence helps the oppressor is with bullying.
