First, the source.

The method has been detailed in Shri Bepin

Behari's book "Astrology Simplified." The details under the
heading "SPHUTA" are given below, from Page 187. To save time
typing out the text, I am reproducing the relevent entry from
aryabhatt.com, which carries the exact text:

[sphuta = opening, blossoming]. Calculations relating to the possibility of having

an offspring. Three important sphutas are
considered in this regard: (i) Beeja (seed) sphuta, (ii) Kshetra (field) sphuta,
and (iii) Putra tithi (opportune date for impregnation) sphuta.

Beeja sphuta is obtained by adding the longitude of Sun, Venus and Jupiter in the
husband's chart. The sum indicates a sign and
its Navamsa. If both of these are in odd signs, virility is present and the chances
of an offspring are good. If both are in
even signs, virility and the chance of progeny are both absent.
If one is odd and the other is even, the progeny may be delayed.

Kshetra sphuta is worked out by adding the longitudes of Jupiter, Moon and Mars in
the wife's natal chart. If the sign
and Navamsa thus obtained are both in even signs, fertility and chances of progeny
are assured. In case both are in odd signs,
the progeny will be delayed or even denied. If one is odd and the other is even,
there may be a delay but the progeny can be
expected.

Putra tithe sphuta is decisive in progeny prediction. It is determined as follows:

Multiply the longitudes of natal Moon and Sun separately by 5, subtract the result
obtained from Sun from that of Moon, and convert the result into degrees, minutes,
etc.
Divide it by 12. The quotient plus 1 gives the tithe required.
If this is less than 15, it is deemed to be in the dark half,
and if the remainder is less than 6, the tithe is in the first
half. If it is more than 6, it would be in the second half.
Impregnation during this period has greater chance of
fertilization.

BVR

When the Beeja (male) is weak and Kshetra (female) is strong, then children may
be born late in the life after undertaking the necessary remedial measures. The
strength to cause pregnancy is controlled by the Sun lord of vitality in
general. Venus governs the seminal fluid. These two must have favourable
positions in the horoscope particularly in odd signs. Similarly, in the case of
a female, Mars governs the nature of blood and the Moon
controls the strength to bear children. These two planets should preferably
occupy even signs.

If this Tithi is one of the chhidra tithis (4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 14th) or
Amavasya, then there is a problem.

Santaan Tithi or Putra Tithi. This is computed as:

Take longitude of Sun and Moon. Multiply by 5 and take the difference. Difference =
5 * (Moon Lon Sun Lon)
Take the remainder while dividing by 360. Remainder = MOD(Difference,360)
Compute the Tithi as usual. Date = Remainder/12, Tithi = CEILING(MOD(Date,15),1)

If this Tithi is one of the chhidra tithis (4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 14th) or
Amavasya, then there is a problem.

The points that are to be noted are:

-Santaan tithi is very important and must be considered.

-Afflictions to 5th house & Karaka are far more important than Beeja/Kshetra
sphuta. Medical science is advanced enough now to take care of basic problems.
-Planets such as Saturn aspecting its own sign in 5th will indeed provide children,
but Saturns basic nature of causing delays will not go away.
-Rahus position in 5th house is different from Rahus drishti on the house. Rahu
in 5th house can cause bahu-putra yoga. But Rahu as a malefic can afflict 5th house
and lord through conjunction/drishti.
-One partners horoscope affects the other. Issues with beeja sphuta and santaan
tithi in husbands horoscope affects the wife and vice versa. This is not one -of
the points discussed while discussing horoscope-compatibility. This is a problem
that needs to be solved as a couple.

- Of course, Dasha and Transit system is above this. Without favourable

dasha/transit, it is not possible to have kids.

------------
6) Further ownership of Rasi, benefic conjucntions and aspects strengthen the beej
and malefics weaken the beeja.

7) The kshetra sphuta is calculated for FEMALES by adding similarly absolute

longitudes of Moon+Mars+Jupiter, removing 360 or multiples of it thereoff and
placing in the appropriate sign.

8]If in an even sign indicates a naturally fertile woman.

9)If aspected or conjunct with benefics...fertility/ potency of Beeja and sphuta is

enhanced.

10) Malefics ( Ra-Ke, Ma and Sat) are reportedly going to reduce the potency /
fertility.
My test cases show Ra-Ket probably are generally adverse.....for Sat and Mar my
suggestion is to look closely as to how good or bad they are overall in natives
chart.

In my read Mars's influence on Kshetra would indicate surgical processes for

Kshetra and Shani will be delays for both beej and Kshetra.
Instead of outright denials of conception especially if Ma and Sat are well placed
in the chart.

11)One other theory is if the Kshetra falls in the house of sun or conjunct or
aspected by it's direct rays....it's fertility is burnt ( equivalent of
combustion).......I am not sure and haven't been able to validate this pasrt.

12) The Beeja and Kshetra sphuta must be used in conjunction with the 5th house/
Jup-the-karak and D7 analysis as an addtional tool for indepth inidctaion and
validation of fertility/ conception matters and not standalone.
13) Rasi chart is the best and first place to start......various commnentaries
recommend repeating it in Navamsa / and/ or Saptamsa.
I am more inclined to look at it in saptamsa if time permits, although Rasi has
generally been suificient to get additional indicators.

===================

One other factor to examine is Venus.....if combusted or debilitated would have an

impact on fertility.
Because Venus rules semen in men and femal reproductive organs in women.
Combustion is more adverse then debolitation...because combustion is a phsycical
phenomenon and affects the physical things ruled by Venus...as opposed to
debilitation that will affect more the emotional aspects of \venus..althouhg both
will have an adverse affect.

so to answer complete questions on fertility/ conception one must look at:

1) The conventional 5th house and putrakarak analysis in D1 and D7.

2) Beeja and Kshetra Sphuta calculations and analysis
3) Venus combustions first and even debilittaion.

====================

Lets look at an example

woman, 3Sep,1970, 15:15 @ 72E37' and 23N02'; +5:30

Moon = 164deg 11'

Mars= 126deg 41'
Jup = 189deg 26'

Kshetra Sphuta= summation of above = 480deg 17'- 360deg = 120deg17'

--whihc means the kshetra sphuta gets planted at 0deg17' in Leo, conjunct with Sun
and Ketu and in an odd sign...all indicators of low fertility.

--She had polycystic ovaries, and concieved after several years of trying...throuhg
IUI at a very late age of 35.

--convenstional analysis shows 5th lord in Rasi Mars combust and conjunct with
Ketu.... and Shani debilitated in the 5th house...further making conception and
delivery difficult.

she had complications and hospitalization during pregnancy--diabetes, on insulin,

stunted growth of child and a complex surgey, prolonged post partum fever and
infections and stay at the hospital, burning her body literally with the amount of
antibiotics injected into her.

--Conception could ve been completely denied to her but for 2 reasons:

1) her husbands very strong chart w.r.t 5th house (lorded by Jupiter in his own
house and a high amsabala)

2)and woman's own Venus is very very strong ( in own house in 11th and an amasabala
of 6) indicating the robustness of internal female organs.

Moon= 27deg09'
Mars= 89deg 18'
Jup = 166deg09'

Kshetra Sphuta= 282deg36'

--whihc means it gets planted in Capricorn @12deg36'

--Even sign...but conjunct with Ketu afflictingthe fertility....and lorded by

shani...indicating delays.

--5th Lord Ma is in the 12th

--difficulty in conception....several years of trying......the child was born

premature and throuhg a complicated surgery with a twisted ( club foot).

==================

Why not try testing this out with me? I dont have kids because I never wanted any-
but I was normally fertile inasmuch as I have never had any reproductive issues
that I know of. Of course-if there were problems I would never have known.....Now
post menopause-SO glad!! DOB February 17 1955, 5:55 pm (your rectified TOB),
Mumbai. I'd be curious to know what your result is. Thanks!
