The RCCI is just one type of dual fuel engine, where the use of different fuels of different reactivity is used in order
to improve the combustion process and consequently reduce emissions and increase combustion efficiency.

Dual fuel is more in general a definition of engines burning more than one fuel. In many applications this has
nothing to do with combustion efficiency; rather, it is done to improve the flexibility of the engine.

This website explains quite clearly how RCCI works!

Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) is a dual fuel engine combustion technology.

RCCI uses in-cylinder fuel blending with at least two fuels of different reactivity and multiple injections to control
in-cylinder fuel reactivity to optimize the combustion .

RCCI is an enhancement of typical/traditional dual-fuel system...

RCCI may blend the fuels, while traditional dual-fuel applies only one type of fuel at a one time.

Mono-Fuel = 1 tank and 1 fuel type

Mono-Fuel-Gas Vehicle = running mainly on gas, but may also have a second small liquid fuel tank (in EU limited
up to 15 liter) and may use the liquid fuel only for short times, like to start the engine before switching to the gas
fuel (typically CNG and Gasoline)

Bi-Fuel = 2 different fuels in 2 separate tanks, which runs only on 1 fuel at a time (typically CNG and Gasoline)

Flex-Fuel = Vehicle with 1 tank that can run on different mixtures of 2 or more fuels. For example any mixture of
Gasoline / Ethanol (very popular in Brazil) or Diesel / Bio-Diesel.

Dual fuel = using simultaneously 2 different types of fuels from 2 separate tanks (Gas and Diesel) or as RCCI using
two liquid fuel types.

RCCI = Mostly two liquid fuels with different reactivity.

Dual fuel = Gaseous fuel as primary fuel and liquid fuel as secondary fuel. Secondary fuel is used to ignite the
primary fuel here.
