 Cherries
Finished Size: Approximately 3½"w x 2½"h (9 cm x 6.5 cm)
MATERIALS
Bedspread Weight cotton thread (size 10): 1 ball of each of
Red, Bright Green, Dark Green, Brown, and White
Steel crochet hook, size 6 (1.8 mm)
Tapestry needle
STITCH GUIDE
TREBLE CROCHET (abbreviated tr)
YO twice, insert hook in st indicated, YO and pull up a loop
(4 loops on hook), (YO and draw through 2 loops on hook)
3 times.
SINGLE CROCHET DECREASE (abbreviated sc decrease)
Pull up a loop in next 2 sts, YO and draw through all 3 loops
on hook (counts as one sc).
CHERRY (Make 2)
With Red, ch 5; join with slip st to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (Right side): Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; do not join, place marker
to mark beginning of rnd (see Markers): 8 sc.
Note: Loop a short piece of thread around any stitch to mark
Rnd 1 as right side.
Rnd 2: 2 Sc in each sc around: 16 sc.
Rnd 3: (2 Sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around: 24 sc.
Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around: 32 sc.
Rnd 5: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around; slip st in next sc,
finish off leaving a long end for sewing: 40 sc.
LEAF
With Bright Green and leaving a long end for Center Vein, ch 14.
Rnd 1 (Right side): Sc in second ch from hook, sc decrease,
hdc in next ch, dc in next 4 chs, tr in next 4 chs, 10 tr in last ch;
working in free loops of beginning ch (Fig. 1), tr in next 4 chs,
dc in next 2 chs, 2 dc in next ch, hdc in next 2 chs, sc in last
2 chs; join with slip st to first sc, finish off: 33 sts.
Note: Mark Rnd 1 as right side.
Center Vein: Make a slip knot with Dark Green and holding
thread to wrong side, insert hook between fifth and sixth tr of
10-tr group on Rnd 1 and place loop on hook, working across
beginning ch, ★ insert hook in next ch, YO and pull up a loop,
draw through loop on hook; repeat from ★ 11 times more;
finish off.

STEM
Row 1 (Right side): With Brown, ch 9, sc in second ch from
hook and in next 3 chs, slip st in next ch, skip remaining 3 chs,
ch 12, 3 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 10 chs, sc in
same ch as last slip st, sc in remaining 3 chs.
Note: Mark Row 1 as right side.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 5 sc, ch 12, 3 sc in second ch
from hook, sc in next 10 chs, sc in next 4 sc, (sc, ch 1, dc, ch 2,
slip st) in last sc; working across end of piece, slip st in end of
Row 1; finish off.
HIGHLIGHT
First Cherry
Make a slip knot with White.
With right side of one Cherry facing and holding White to wrong
side, insert hook in any sc on Rnd 3, place loop on hook, slip st
around same st and next 3 sc, slip st in sc on Rnd 4, rotate Cherry
and slip st around same st and next 2 sc; finish off.
Second Cherry
Make a slip knot with White.
With right side of remaining Cherry facing and holding White
to wrong side, insert hook in any sc on Rnd 1, slip st around
same st and next 3 sc, slip st in sc on Rnd 2, rotate Cherry and
slip st around same st and next sc; finish off.
FINISHING
With right sides of all pieces facing and using photo as a guide
for placement, sew:
Cherries together, slightly overlapping one edge.
each long end of Stem to top of one Cherry.
wrong side of rounded end of Leaf to short end of Stem.
MARKERS
Markers are used to help distinguish the beginning of each
round being worked. Place a 2" (5 cm) scrap piece of thread
030E
before the first stitch of each round, moving marker after each
round is complete.
FREE LOOPS OF A CHAIN
When instructed to work in free loops of a chain, work in loop
indicated by arrow (Fig. 1).
