EXAPND THE PROVERB “Rome was not Built in a Day”

‘Rome was not built in a day’ is an apt proverb to explain the

importance of hard work and dedication in life to achieve success. The
statement is an inspiration that success when achieved after loads of hard
work is rewarding and is worth every effort. We are often impatient and
want to take a leap in terms of success and prosperity but if it was that
easy everyone would be successful and rich.

We can dream big, our dreams in life have no boundaries but there
would be many obstacles on a path towards fulfilling the dream as
nothing comes easy in life. One needs to put in efforts and work hard to
battle the obstacles coming in way and have patience to reach the final
destination. One should keep working in life until the dream is fulfilled
and not give up easily.

If we plant a tree and want to enjoy the fruits of the tree it’s not enough
to just plant a tree. We need to regularly water the tree and nurture it
with love and care for a long time. Only then the tree would grow and
start giving fruits for us to enjoy. If we stop taking care of the tree and
water it for just a few months then it would adversely affect the growth
of the tree and we might never be able to taste its fruits.

Conclusion

So, if we wish to achieve something great in life and have big dreams in
life then hard work, patience and dedication towards achieving the goal
are the most important attributes in this direction. If we are focused
towards achieving the goal nothing is impossible in life and the best
example for the same is Rome, one of the most exquisite and marvelous
cities in the world.

DESCRIBE AN UNINVITED GUEST’S ARRIVAL TO YOUR HOUSE

Guests are pests- at least so I thought when I saw

unexpectedly a large number of guests in our house. Some
were known, but some were quite unknown to all of us.
We had never seen them, never thought of them. Have
you ever heard or experienced so many guests at your
house without any notice.
It was on last Diwali when it happened. We were all
invited for food to our friend’s house. My mummy was
really sick and she was not inclined to go out for food.
She could not eat anything. But she came with us just for
company’s sake. The men folk had finished their meals
and the ladies were about to begin when our servant came
running. He brought the information that a large company
of guests have arrived. I was happy because I had no
friends to play with but when I looked at my mother, I
found her upset. She was not well and she was not
informed of the arrival of the guests. We had only one
servant. As we, children had finished our meals, we
returned home with our father. Our so called uncle and his
guests were very homely. I only knew one adopted uncle
and his wife and children. But the other elderly and gentle
men were new to me.
I managed to prepare nearly 20 cups of tea with the help
of our servant. My mummy was particular that there
should be something to eat with tea. So I gave some
dishes also which were prepared by my sick mummy for
Diwali. The guests finished those things in no time.
In the meantime I went to mummy and told her the actual
number of guests at our house. She was all furious but she
had to come home to face the job.
When we came, some guests were relaxing with their legs
on
the table and heads on the embroidered cushions.
Children were playing with the TV. The empty cups and
saucers were all lying here and there near the chairs. Red
with anger but putting a very sweet ‘smile on her lips, she
welcomed the guests. I was wondering at her double role.
Anyhow mummy prepared the meals. The guests came by
9.p.m. and ate to their heart’s content though they said at
first that they were not hungry.
They were in our house only for half a day, from 1
o’clock in the afternoon till 11 o’clock at night. But I was
completely tired of them. And my sick mummy! She had
to do such a lot of work, you will not believe. But I
helped my mummy in cooking.
WRITE ESSAY ON GLOBALIZATION AND 21ST
CENTURY
Globalization is an irreversible and irresistible phenomenon. It
is very famous all over the world. While dilating on the subject,
it is important to note that globalization not only affects us as a
citizen but also as “producer-consumer in the global economy”.
In the modern contemporary world, intense debate revolves
around the term “globalization”, which is even today a
continuous issue.
Before exploring the concept, we should take a look over the
different definitions of the phenomenon. Globalization can be
defined as “closely interrelated integration of market in terms
of goods, services and capital”. It can also be defined as
“gradual erosion of boundaries between states through
increased economic interdependence and interlink ages can be
termed as globalization.
From the above mentioned definitions, we can assume that
globalization is the mutual sharing of goods, services and
capital between or among states. It is also gradually making
states closer and integrated. There are different theories about
the beginning of the concept of globalization.
Some are of the view that it started from the mid of 20th
century with woods conference 1944. While the others are of
the view that this concept was properly started with the
establishment of W.T.O in 1995. Whatever the reality is, it is
true that the pace of globalization was accelerated with World
trading Organization. The main agenda of this organization was
to end border and fasten the trade between the states.
World Bank also came in this battle of evolution of globalization
and identifies three waves of globalization focusing on
economic integration.
1. First wave of globalization from 1854 to 1914.
2. Second wave of globalization from 1945 to 1973.
3. Third wave of globalization from 1973 till today.
In the post 1973 era, the cold war subsided and there was a
quantum leap forward in the “economic integration”. The free
market economy became the guiding principal and global
economy spread to the larger part of the world.
There is a difference of opinion among people for beginning of
the concept but nobody can deny its importance in the modern
contemporary world. From now to onward, we will examine
how trade, growth and poverty are interlinked and how best
the benefits of globalization acquired to ameliorate threat to
humanity. Presumably, solutions to such problems would then
avert a backlash against globalization.

DESCRIBE AN INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION THAT YOU VISITED
RECENTLY.

Exhibitions are a source of education and information for

the common man. People can learn about many things
from exhibitions and thus increase their knowledge. Thus,
the role of exhibitions in the progress of a nation is very
significant. Exhibitions are of immense help to the student
community in a country. Students can learn a lot,
especially about the progress made by different nations in
different fields, by visiting exhibitions. Besides,
exhibitions provide means of amusement and recreation.
Many national and international exhibitions are held in
Delhi every year. I had the opportunity to visit the
industrial exhibition held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi
last February. It was a Saturday, and I along with my
friends decided to visit the exhibition. Many countries of
the world exhibited their industrial goods in this
exhibition. We brought the ticket and entered the
exhibition ground through a huge gate. Once we entered
the ground, we were really in a magic land.
There were many pavilions of different countries.
Countries U.S.A., Russia, U.K., Japan and Italy had
constructed huge pavilions to exhibit their machines and
industrial products. They had brought big and small size
machines from their countries to show the progress made
by them in the industrial arena. Each pavilion tried to
shoe the economic and industrial progress made by the
country to which it belonged. The articles on display were
of many kinds. Big machines were exhibited at the U.S
Pavilions. The Japanese Pavilions has small cars and
trains. There were guides to give necessary information
regarding the exhibits. There was a long queue of people
at every pavilion. The U.S and Japanese drew pavilions
has huge crowd.
Indian industrialists had also constructed a beautiful
pavilion to exhibit their machines and goods. All twenty-
five states in India had also constructed pavilions to
exhibit their achievements in industry. The latest
industrial products and the systems were displayed in
those pavilions. There were many textile plants,
machinery for manufacturing drugs and engineering
goods, automobiles and heavy machinery. The BHEL had
demonstrated power-generating units. The pavilion at the
Tatas displayed mini plants for the manufacture of
railway lines. Diesel engine and electric locomotive were
also demonstrated.
There were stalls snacks, sweets and tea. Various
amusements and entertainments were also arranged in the
exhibition ground. We had a swing on a giant-wheel and
enjoyed it very much. There were cultural programmers
from different states. It was a rare exhibition which I had
seen and I still cherish its memory.

BRIEF AN ESSAY ON THE PURPOSE ANF
FEATURES OF GROUP DISCUSSION

What is a Group Discussion?

Group discussions are a very important aspect of group communication. Group
discussions are a creative and dynamic activity which stimulates reflective thinking
among the members. Group discussions may be defined as an activity in which a
small number of persons meet face to face and exchange and share ideas freely or
attempt to reach a decision on a common issue.

Group discussions are unstructured and less formal compared to meetings or

conferences wherein specific roles are assigned to the participants. In a group
discussion, an individual’s thought process is influenced by the views and opinions
of the other members. It also depends on where and in which direction the mood of
the discussion moves. In a group discussion, each participant is free to speak his
views. A successful discussion involves both listening and speaking

haracteristics of Group Discussions

Some of the salient features common to all group discussions are as follows:

(i) Interface: A basic feature of group discussions is the interaction among the
various members of the group. They see, hear and communicate with each other
orally by paying attention to each other.

(ii) Leader and Members: Group discussions are effective only when there is a
group of members and a leader. The leader has to summarize facts and
information, integrate them, stimulate thinking and agree to a unanimous solution
of the problem. The members of the group become actively related to each other in
their respective roles.

(iii) Participation: The effectiveness and efficiency of a group discussion depend,

to a large extent, upon the active participation of the members.

(iv) Interpersonal Attraction: Another characteristic feature of a group

discussion is interpersonal attraction. As long as interaction continues, the likes,
dislikes, behavior and temperament of members are known to each other. Among
them, empathy develops and as such they share each others problems.
(v) Pressure to Conform: In a group discussion, there is always an element of
pressure to conform to norms. The pre-defined and established standards are
always enforced and followed.

(vi)Conflict: A conflict is a difference or disagreement among the members of the

group, which often arise during deliberations and discussions. A conflict is
inevitable and usually develops when alternative solutions are present. It can
stimulate the members to find new solutions to the problem. Thus, conflict is not
necessarily bad. But if it arises due to the political behavior of the members it will
have dysfunctional consequences.

Purpose of Group Discussions

Group discussions may serve various purposes. Some of them are:

(i) To reach a solution on an issue of concern

(ii) To generate new ideas or new approaches to solving a problem

(iii) For selecting candidates after the written test for employment or for admission
to educational institutes

(iv) To provide us with an avenue to train ourselves in various interpersonal skills

Advantages of Group Discussions

The advantages of group discussions are as follows:

(i) It provides a deeper understanding of the subject.

(ii) It improves the ability to think critically.

(iii) It provides different approaches to solving a problem.

(iv) It helps the group in taking a decision.

(v) It gives an opportunity to hear the opinions of other persons.
