Event Schedule

Event: Year 2 STEM event

Date: 16th August 2018

Time: Approximately a one-and-a-half-hour session (1.5 hours).

Location: The Valley State school, School Hall.

Beekeeper to arrive in order to sign in and set up their display.

10:35 am 11:05 am 30 min Activity setup (to be completed at least 30mins before event Year 6 student

- Bee bot coding activity

11:15 am 11:20 am 5 min Students are collected from lunch by their teacher and Mrs Yeatman
escorted to the hall

First Year 2 Class

11:20 am 11:30 am 10 min Students to be seated in front of Mr Smith Mrs Yeatman

- Students are reminded of their responsibility as a


listener and consequences for misbehaviour

11:30 am 11:50 am 20 min Mr Smith to take over for the duration of the session Mr Smith

- Explanation of the importance of bees in the world and


to humans
- Explanation of the type of bees he brought (native bee)
and behaviour characteristics
- Explanation of bee’s habitat

11:50 am 12:00 pm 10 min Optional honey taste testing Mrs Yeatman &
Mrs Morrison
- Students to line up single file and are offered a ½
teaspoon of honey to taste test.
(Thanks, given to Mr smith, then is able to pack up and leave
when ready)

12:00pm 12:10 pm 10 min Students have been given a stamp on their hand with a or Mrs Yeatman &

Students work in pairs to create their own mini bee hive

- Using the materials provided students are encouraged


to make their own mini bee hive similar to the
displayed sample hive
- One parent helper to be shared between 2 student
pairs

12:55 pm 1:00 pm 5 min Students are instructed to line up and are exported back to the Mrs Yeatman &
lunch area for second break. Mrs Morrison
