What is IPTV?
The cooperation between Interoud and Blusens, as software and hardware developers, has resulted
in the birth of a true NEXTGEN IPTV system that is able to fulfil every requirement the Operator may
need. From standard TV channels distribution, to HDTV, Video-on-Demand, Time-shift, personalized
advertisement schemes and sponsorships, direct purchase from the TV, Digital Signage and more.
Such solutions play a very important role in the hospitality sector as they provide the tools to increase
the comfort level of their guests/patients, as well as the overall revenue. With this IPTV system, the
hotel can offer enhanced entertainment services at a Premium, increase the availability of other hotel
services (Room Service, Laundry, Restaurant Reservations, Spa, Sports activities, Gift Shops, etc.)
while getting valuable data as to what their guests are watching, what channels are popular, what
IPTV Standard Platform content type gets the most income, what hotel services have more demand, etc.
Thus, IPTV by Blusens provides a true added-value tool to the operator that will, unobtrusively and

services. These expand from the basic Ethernet network for computer interconnection, to DSL lines for internet access,
IP telephony or the most advanced automation and control systems.
The advantage of a standard communication technology over a single network allows the simplification of the cabling
network, enables the integration of varied services, which guarantees the compatibility with future technological
developments, and facilitates the monitoring, security and control of any installation.
Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is one of the services that now can also integrate with the structured cable network
of a building. Such revolutionary change in the way TV signal is distributed significantly improves the signal quality,
interactivity and control, giving the operators a plethora of options to monitor, add services, maximize audience and
improve the return on the investment.

Cable TV Operators
IPTV by Blusens full-fledged solution enhances the services the operator
can provide as it is fully interactive in every possible way. Direct TV purchase
becomes a true reality for varied forms of products and services. Also, it allows
the creation of Portals for different On-Demand content, Pay-per-View, and Live
events. Our system enhances the data gathering of user consumption, enabling
the use of complex statistics that will serve as a tool for continuous improvement
and detection of overlooked niche markets.
Hospitals
Added to the general Hospitality functionality, IPTV can record, and make available
to the user network, any workshop, lecture, seminar or procedure carried out in
the facility, thus enhancing the practise and resources available to the Hospital.
The offer to the patient can even include the meal selection from his physician’s
approved menu.
Educational Facilities
Using the Corporate services as a base, an education institution may be interested
in adding notes to the video or a real time messaging feature to allow the users
watching a live event like a surgery to share opinions and comments with other
users.

System Architecture
1. The VoDKAST Middleware server creates the STB menus by accessing the
metadata information of the videos from the VoD cluster (movie name,
actors, director, etc.) and the EPG information from the live and playout
channels while considering the user access rights and credit information
obtained from the PMS. Thus, the menu is customized for each guest.
2. The hotel operator can fine tune the platform through the management
console. The Middleware Server also monitors the current state of each
part of the system and triggers the proper alerts to the management
consoles in case of any problem.
3. The VoD Streaming Cluster stores all the videos in its storage nodes and
streams it to the network through the streaming nodes. The platform
allows an unlimited number of streamer and storage nodes to increase the
storage or streaming capacity independently from each other according to
the operator needs.
4. The IP Contribution System obtains the live DVB-S, DVB-C and DVB-T
MPEG-2 streams from satellite, cable or terrestrial feeds and injects them
into the IP network as IP multicast streams.
7. The Digital Signage server controls the digital signage screens and split
its layout in several regions that can be filled with any multimedia content,
even Adobe Flash.
8. The Ethernet Switches aggregate the outputs of all the servers and carry
the video streams to the screens through the IP network. IPTV Architecture Graphic
9. The integrated solution allows several types of STB and screens working
together: Standalone STB screen, Standard PCs screens and Low or High
Connectivity Digital signage screen. Any IPTV content (live, playout, VoD,
etc.) can be displayed in any of the STB types.

Digital Contribution
The digital contribution IP Streamer offers a complete professional video head-end solution. It is built around a
modular platform, that brings the capability of hosting as many tuning modules as required.
This way, the scalability of the platform is assured by providing a higher density, lower cost and better reliability
system due to its integrated architecture.
The IP Streamers can receive MPEG-2 transport streams from a variety of input sources (ASI, DVB-S/S2, DVB-T,
IP and DVB-C, with QPSK, 8PSK, COFDM or QAM modulations) and can descramble and re-scramble selected
services, before streaming it via IP or ASI.
All the elements of the system are continuously monitored, including decoding CAM modules via a web-based
Management Interface, which enables remote configuration of all modules, real time status of their performance,
and presentation of service related information. The streamer supports full analysis of PSI/SI (PSIP in later
release) and regenerates all tables as required.
For the analog contribution option, the first step is encoding the original analog source into MPEG-2 SC/CAB4PS-04 16 Slot Contribution Chassis

74 Digital Signage Digital Signage 75
The extensive experience and knowledge of the Pulsar product team, in both large
installation and VoD management, makes it the right tool to face any challenges
related to security, user experience, immediacy and management of remote

Pulsar is a complete product that enables the operator to have full control, from
a central location, of the full system, including screen layouts, content, program

www.blusensnetworks.com
76 Digital Signage Digital Signage 77
Pulsar Digital signage solution allows you to create a multimedia advertising solution for providing content
to hundreds of screens simultaneously. It also allows you to manage and monitor on real time what is being
broadcast on each screen.
The playout solution is the simplest digital signage platform and allows you to feed the signage screens with a
full screen sequence of videos, but, if you want more flexibility for, for example showing more than one video at
once, Pulsar Digital Signage platform is your answer.
The Pulsar video distribution is supported by the most advanced IPTV technologies providing a high connectivity
solution in which the video streams are transferred through the network as multicast IP streams low connectivity

Generators 95
The Channel Generators are the devices responsible of composing the final video stream by filling the
template defined at the Pulsar Signage Server with the media contents in a single video stream.
Depending on the reliability of the network the streams can be generated at the head-end level with
high connectivity channel generators.
The low connectivity solution is best suited to deployments where the permanent connection with the
screens can not be 100% assured. In this situations, the STB connected to the screen must have local
storage space to ensure 24x7 signage generation even during a network outing.
High Connectivity
The channel generator can be deployed at the head-end level, and its

FACIAL
RECOGNITION
100 Facial Recognition Facial Recognition 101
The Blusens Facial Recognition system allows the manager of a public crowded place to gather
information about the people visiting such venue in real time. Shopping malls, Hospitals, Bank
branches, Airports, etc. are places suitable for this kind of systems.
The system consists in a series of small cameras strategically deployed on specific places, such
as adverstisement or ailes, where the crowd is expected to walk or to stop and pay attention to the
advertisement shown. The system is capable of detecting the face of each person in range and identify
the gender and the age, so the administrator can gather statistics about the kind of people at the venue
at any given moment.
The Facial Recognition system can even calculate the number of seconds each person spends in front of
the camera and determine for how long the person was looking to the camera directly during this period.
By using this mechanism the property owner can discover what is the age and gender distribution on a
specific moment of the day as well as if the latest changes in decoration or advertising are increasing
the attention spans of the visitors.
All the information gathered via different cameras is integrated into one single server to create
statistics defined specifically to fit the necessities of every authorized user of the platform. The access
to this statistics and reports can be done from any device (tablets, phones, computers, etc.)
The 4 Factors
2. Attendance and Attention. Attitude in front of the camera: Identifies who is looking at the screen or
just standing in front of it
3. Age group: And gives you the possibility to personalize real-time advertisement depending on the
age and gender
4. Traffic Monitoring: Relates people and time as we can know how many people stops in every point
per hour.
