Highlights
 We continue to support the National Greening Program (NGP) and we continue to find like-
minded groups to execute one of PMSEA’s core advocacies. A Memorandum of Understanding has
been signed by PMSEA and Kiwanis Philippines to widen the reach of our tree planting activities
and insure the undertaking’s sustainability. Through its member companies with established
seed banks, we supply the saplings and Kiwanis members aid in the actual planting and
stewardship of the seedlings. In the same light, PMSEA forged a partnership with the Junior
Chamber International Senate Philippines
Through the Environment Management
Bureau (EMB) we forged an alliance
with the Sagip Ilog Movement and
media giant, GMA 7 to support the
Clean River Projects of the
Department of Environment and
Natural Resources. As a result, the
Diliman Creek (Buaya Creek) which
spans 33 barangays and located right
at the heart of Quezon City near the
UP Campus was adopted. Last October
the DENR-EMB us as one of the
corporate benefactors of the Adopt an
Estero project of the same.
We also partnered with Diwata – Women in Resource Development Inc., the Land Rover Club of the Philippines, Barefoot
College and the Embassy of India to search for IP Grandmothers who will be trained to become Solar Engineers at the
Barefoot College in India. This project dubbed “Tanging Tanglaw” turning IP Grandmothers into Solar Engineers” was
launched in May 2014 with Sanjit “Bunker” Roy one of Time Magazine’s awardees for most influential people in 2010.
After months of searching and qualifying candidates, the first batch of Aeta Grandmothers from Zambales and Tarlac
were sent off in September. The grandmothers will train for six months and upon their return are expected to light up
their villages by using solar energy and the technology they learned. The counterpart of the project partners is to raise
funds for the equipment to be used in the beneficiary villages.

As we all know, the rebuilding of communities after each disaster takes time and a
concerted effort of both government and private entities. We continue to help rebuild
the cornerstones of disaster stricken communities with projects like the Bohol School
Rebuilding Project, Gawad Kalinga (GK) for Daanbantayan, Cebu in tandem with
Oceanagold and Delta Earthmoving.
This year the PMSEA renewed its commitment to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and
Management Council and the Office of Civil Defense.

Coordination between PMSEA and Office of the Civil Defense hopes to continue to
have reliable linkages in terms of providing help and assistance where it is most needed in
times of disasters and calamities.
 In September, we teamed up with Thermopower Inc, the Philippines Distributor of Lifesaver
Jerry cans and other water filters, in order to augment its capacity to provide clean, safe and
potable drinking water in disaster stricken areas. Being aware of the toll that volunteers go
through in disaster response operations, PMSEA partnered with the UP-PGH department of
Psychology to conduct stress de-briefing sessions to our volunteer Emergency Response Teams.
