PRACTICE PAPER
LINEAR EQUATION IN TWO VARIABLES
1. Draw the graph of equation : 3x – 4y = 12. Check whether x = 4, y = 2 is
solution.
2. Draw the graph of equation : x + 3y = 12. Check whether (a) x = 2, y = 1;
(b) x = 3, y = 3 are solutions.
3. Draw the graph of 2y – x = 9; 6y – 3x = 21 and obtain the common
solution(s) if any.
4. Solve graphically the following system of linear equations : 2x + y = 6, x
– 2y = –2. Also find the co-ordinates of the points where the lines meet
the x-axis.
5. Solve the following system of equations graphically :
3x + y – 2 = 0, 2x – 3y – 5 = 0. Find graphically the co-ordinates of vertices
of the triangle formed by the equations and x-axis.
6. Draw the graph of 2y = 4x – 6 and 2x – y = 3 and determine whether this
system of linear equations has unique solutions or not.
7. Solve the following system of equations graphically :
3
2 x  3 y  8, 4x  y  7. Find graphically the co-ordinates of vertices of the
2
triangle formed by the equations and y-axis.
8. Find graphically the vertices of the triangle whose sides have the
following equations : y = x, x = 0 and 3x + 3y = 6.
9. (a) Determine graphically whether the following system of equations:
3x – 4y = 1, 8y – 6x = 4. is consistent or inconsistent.
(b) Solve graphically the following system of linear equations : x+y
= 5, 4x + 3y = 17. Find graphically the co-ordinates of vertices of the
triangle formed by the equations and x-axis.
10. Solve the following system of linear equations :
(a) 2y = 4x – 6; 2x = y + 3
(b) x – 2y = 6; 3x – 6y = 0
(c) x + y = 3; 2x + 5y = 12
(d) 2x + 3y – 4 = 0; x – y + 3 = 0
(e) 2x – y = 2; 4x –y = 8
(f) 2y – x = 9; 6y – 3x = 21.
