BRIEF SUMMARY OF BILL:

BE IT ENACTED BY THE RHODE ISLAND SENATE THAT,

SECTION 1 -

WHEREAS, the history of our state is vital to the culture of our state

WHEREAS, there are sites in our state which contain objects of historical significance

WHEREAS, these objects require protection and documentation to sustain their existence

WHEREAS, the duty of the state in which these objects reside is to provide the resources to

protect and document them

BE IT ENACTED THAT the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations shall designate

the site of “Mark Rock” at Occupawtuxet Cove in Warwick, Rhode Island, as a site of historical

significance to the State.

SECTION 2 - The site of “Mark Rock” bears carvings from the early settlers of Warwick, Rhode

Island, as well as Native American carvings and symbols on its faces

SECTION 3 - The site of “Mark Rock” has been mostly covered by the storms which have

landed on the coast of our state


SECTION 4 - To protect this object of historical significance, the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations will take the necessary steps to document and register this area.
