Abstract

One  of  the  leading  problems  facing  America  today  is  unemployment.  The  magnitude

of  this  problem  has  grown  to  become  one  of  the  most  talked  about  issues  for  half  a

decade.  All  races  and  both  genders  suffer  from  unemployment.  Unemployment  in

today’s  Industries  is  at  an  all  time  high,  which  played  a  major  role  in  the  recession.

These  graphs  will  show  how  unemployment  varies  by  race,  gender  and  educational

background.

Scope  of  the  Problem

U.S.  Bureau  of  Labor  Statistics,  ‘‘Employment  and  Earnings  Online,’’  January  2009;

Descriptive  Discussion
This  graph  is  shows  the  unemployment  rate  for  every  major  industry  in  the  United
States  totaling  out  at  145,000,000,000unemployed  persons.  Unemployment  is
affecting  every  industry  and  both  genders  as  shown  in  the  graph.  Women  seem  to  be
affected  the  most  over  all  especially  in  management  positions.

Interpretive  Discussion
Unemployment  is  a  very  serious  problem  affecting  our  nations  economy.  It  has  no
boundaries  to  region,  race,  industry,  or  gender.  The  chart  is  broken  down  to  show
Industry  and  gender   4

the  unemployment  rate  for  men  and  women  and  how  they  are  in  affected  in  each
industry.  The  graph  is  measured  per  1000  people.

Disparities  in  the  problem

U.S.  Bureau  of  Labor  Statistics,  ‘‘Employment  and  Earnings  Online,’’  January  2009;

Descriptive  Discussion

This  graph  shows  that  the  unemployment  rate  varies  between  each  race  and  age.  In

detail  the  graph  also  shows  that  white  Americans  are  the  highest  race  unemployed

in  the  United  States.  However  since  the  white  population  as  a  whole  is  significantly

higher  then  African  Americans  the  unemployment  rate  is  higher  versus  population

to  African  American.

Industry  and  gender   6

Interpretive  Discussion

The  Unemployment  rate  for  Asians  16  and  over  is  particularly  lower  then  other

races.  Therefore  the  unemployment  rate  in  the  Asian  society  is  a  disparity  when

compared  to  other  ethnicities.  This  chart  is  measured  in  the  thousands  to  show

exactly  how  many  unemployed  persons  there  are  per  race.

Magnitude  of  the  Problem

U.S.  Bureau  of  Labor  Statistics,  ‘‘Employment  and  Earnings  Online,’’  January  2009;

Descriptive  Discussion

The  magnitude  of  this  problem  has  grown  to  become  one  of  the  most  important

issues  facing  our  nation  today.  The  Unemployed  jobseekers  rate  differentiates  from

the  unemployment  rate  because  it  shows  the  amount  of  unemployed  persons  that

are  actively  searching  and  using  various  methods  to  do  locate  job  opportunities.

This  graph  shows  the  amount  of  unemployed  jobseekers  that  are  actively  searching

for  job  opportunities  both  male  and  female.

Industry  and  gender   8

Interpretive  Discussion

The  graph  shows  that  the  unemployment  rate  is  a  major  issue  for  both  genders.

Especially  since  this  graph  is  measured  in  thousands  and  shows  the  amount  of

people  actively  job  searching  and  using  various  methods  to  find  employment  for

example  571,000,000  women  have  filled  out  job  applications  and  are  still

unemployed.

Changes  in  the  Problem

U.S.  Bureau  of  Labor  Statistics,  ‘‘Employment  and  Earnings  Online,’’  January  2009;

Descriptive  Discussion

This  graph  shows  the  change  over  time.  It  shows  how  in  2000  the  unemployment

rate  was  at  43%  and  has  doubled  over  the  years  to  80%.  It  was  fairly  low  in  2007

but  jumped  back  up  to  50%  in  2008.This  graph  clearly  shows  that  the

unemployment  rate  is  growing  and  a  plan  of  action  must  be  put  forth.

Industry  and  gender   10

Interpretive  Discussion

By  analyzing  this  graph  one  would  interpret  from  it  that  the  unemployment  rate  is

growing  tremendously  and  is  affecting  a  very  high  number  of  American  citizens.

Also  that  it  has  to  be  affecting  various  races  and  both  genders  with  numbers  this

high.

Industry  and  gender   11

  The  unemployment  rate  has  continued  to  grow  over  the  years  and  is  now  one

of  the  most  important  economic  issues  facing  our  nation  today.  The  unemployment

rate  is  affecting  every  industry  and  every  gender  the  main  changes  over  time  has

been  it  continues  to  affect  more  people  over  the  years.  Every  ethnicity  is  affected  by

unemployment  however  the  African  American  society  has  the  most  affected  when

compared  to  overall  population.  Therefore  both  genders  are  extremely  affected  by

the  unemployment  rate  but  women  are  most  affected.  Education  is  the  only  key  to

securing  oneself  from  becoming  a  statistic  of  unemployment  because  the  data

percentage  is  lower  for  the  educated  unemployed  with  a  bachelor’s  degree  or

higher.
