Research Question and Development

1. What is the question/problem you are asking to research?


“Why does our Pupils Dilate In Response To Cognitive Thinking?”
2. How does your topic relate to your Career Pathway?
I hope to further my education in Physical Sciences to pursue a career in Optometry. This topic will stimulate my
knowledge to research and to write a comprehensive research paper that pertains to the eyes, as well as my career
pathway.
3. How did you choose this topic?
I want to gain a deep understanding between pupillometry and neurophysiology in terms
of answering my topic question.
4. Why is this topic important to you?
I believe that this topic is a basic concept prior to understanding other factors regarding eye healthcare. It is also
prevalent that our eyes are progressively getting worse due to several factors such as screening time and poor diets.
5. What are your personal goals for this project?
Since I already wear glasses and I do not want to make my vision worse, my intervention is to limit the amount of time
I spend on my phone. I hope to get inspired through my research to not look at my phone waking up and before going
to bed, and to acknowledge that eyecare not only affects how we see but also how we feel.
6. What are your academic or educational goals for this [research] project?
I will expand my knowledge in the eyecare industry by understanding the anatomy and
physiology of the eyes and beyond the role of occupations pertaining to Optometry.
7. What research do you plan on using for your senior project?
I plan the research the mental and physical benefits of the items my group are collecting from students and staff
members at our school, and our community for our Hygienic Care Drive that will take place in mid-March through
mid-April.
8. How will your Senior Research Paper answer a question, solve a problem, benefit others, design or
invent something original, and/or conduct an experiment?
Using peer-review articles will support evidence for my topic and my question because it
contains information that is not based off of personal anecdotes or experiences.
9. Who might you interview for information to help you gain information about your [service] project?
I will need to stay in touch with someone who has done a similar project to my group senior project such as the Socks
and Snacks Drive or the Clothing Drive for the homeless.
10. How will your project involve in-depth research?
My research will incorporate articles that are research-based and not focused upon
experiences regarding the mental and physical disadvantages of not having certain hygiene products
including hair care, skin care, and oral care.
11. What obstacles may arise in the process of writing your senior paper?
I may not have enough evidence to support my topic and question which will make me
feel like I am repeating the information I already stated which will prompt my research paper to become
repetitive and weak.
12. What is your essential question for your [service] project?
“How does having hygiene products lead to a higher quality of life?”
13. What do you already know about your [service] project topic?
I am aware that not everyone is able to have or to be able to purchase these essentials to live a higher
quality of life. It may be difficult to afford or to find these items for those in need, and perhaps that it takes
a few steps to get involved to provide these resources.
14. What skills and knowledge do you want to learn [from your Research Paper and Service Project)?
I hope to gain better communication skills, talking about the topic of my Research Paper and Senior Project
in a mature, clear and concise manner.
15. What do you want people to know?
I want people to understand the mental and physical benefits towards good hygiene in terms of eyecare
health. People can still take precautions even if they are not in the most healthiest state of mind only if they
have the growth mindset to improve what they can to achieve a higher quality of life.
