SPATZDataGrabber

1 Requirements
The software AutoSPATZAS-01 requires a PC with the following features available:
• CPU Pentium IV, 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM
• VGA graphics card with a resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher
• Windows XP or Windows 7
• serial interface RS232

!!! Important Hint !!!

To use the SPATZDataGrabber functions the SPATZ weld timer must have the firmware 147 or more.
The graphic operating device SPATZBG-02 needs the firmware 139 or more.

To activate the SPATZDataGrabber - functions the flag behind PERM. DATA-RECORDING must be
set under

PROGRAMMING >BASIC SETTINGS

in the SPATZBG-02.

The data-set will be sent after each welding via the RS232-interface without a request of the receiver
(e.g. SPATZDataGrabber).

That means:

IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO SEND DATA OR INSTRUCTIONS TO THE SPATZ WELD TIMER.

OTHERWISE A PERFECT FUNCTION OF THE TIMER CANNOT BE GUARANTEED!

2 Installation
Insert CD and call „setup.exe“.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

The main window of the SPATZDataGrabber software shows all the important information about the
data storage. For up to 8 connections each actual storage file will be shown simultaneously.
Additional you get information about the file size and the number of welds. The software can be
protected against unauthorized access by entering a password in the provided panel. Then it is not
possible to take changes or to close the program.

4 The Connection to the Weld Timer

The PC will be connected to the weld timer by a reliable RS232 interface cable. Next step is to select
the right COM port (e.g. COM1) with a mouse click in the SPATZDataGrabber software. The little
head changes from grey-yellow to yellow automatically after the connection has been activated.

Now the directory must be specified by pressing the Browse-button and then enter a file-name.
Please go through the following steps that appears on the screen:

1. choose
directory

2. choose
filename

3. confirm your
choice

After choosing directory and file-name the following information will be shown:

connection filename filesize number of

active and directory weldings

5 Options
In the menu Options the maximum filesize can be set, the animation of the active connection can be
switched on / off and the program can be closed.

5.1 Measured Value Tendency

In the menu item Show history

the measured value tendency window appears. In the window you can see current, voltage,
penetration, time, energy, final resistance, final trigger angle or force of 200 welds.

5.1.1 Graphic
There are two possibilities to represent the mentioned weld parameters:

In this mode the 8 weld parameters (refer to chapter 5.1) of one connected weld timer will be
displayed in eight windows. The display range contains 200 welds.

In this mode you can select any weld parameter (in this case: Current) to display. The selected
parameter of each connected weld timer will be displayed in its own display window.

5.1.2 Scale
In the menu Scale measured value history parameter it is possible to determine the range of each
parameter by entering the display value.

enter the minimum and

maximum value

confirm with OK

5.1.3 Scroll Mode

In this mode you can determine the continuing mode of display after 200 welds. Three modes are
available:

Sweep

After 200 welds the actual cursor starts with continuing representation of new welds at the left window
range. The former values will be displayed until its overwriting of new values. The red line represents
the actual cursor position.

actual position

Page 6 2011-04-27
SPATZDataGrabber

Continuous

If the actual cursor position is at the edge of the right window side the former values will remove to
one position left. The last 200 welds will be displayed in the whole window.

Block

After 200 welds all values in the window will be deleted. The representation of values will start again
until the next 200 welds will be reached.

5.2 Maximum Filesize

By selecting Maximum filesize

the recording mode window will be opened. Now it is possible to activate the recording mode.

scroll between the

different modes max. welds per file (only
in Maximum filesize mode)

confirm with OK

SPATZDataGrabber

There are 5 different modes available:

None – If this mode is enabled, all welds will be saved into one file. The only limitation of this mode is
the available space on the hard drive.

New file every month – Every month a new file will be created. The program add the month and the
year automatically at the end of the filename.

New file every week – In this mode a file will be created every week. By analogy with the last mode
the program add the calendar week and the year at the end of the filename.

New file every day – With a large number of welds it is possible to create a new file every day. The
complete date will be added at the end of the filename.

Maximum filesize – The last option is to set a specific number of welds per file. If the maximum is
reached, a new file with the next file number will be created.

5.3 Animation On / Off

The animation of the yellow datagrabber-heads for presenting an active connection can be switched
on / off by the menu Animation active. When the animation is switched on, a tick will be appeared at
the left side of the menu-point.

5.4 Time Synchronization with Internal PC-Time

To control several weld timers simultaneously, the data of each timer can be synchronized with the
internal pc-time. This function will be selected by choosing the menu point Use internal PC time for
synchronization. The tick at the left side of the menu-point shows that the function is activated.

5.5 Tasktime
With the option Tasktime it is possible to adjust with which priority the program SPATZDataGrabber
will be treated concerning other applications running at the same time in the operating system
‚Windows’.

For contemporary computer generations the basic setting for the tasktime ‚little’ should be sufficient.
However, the SPATZDataGrabber certainly demands the more processing power, the more timers
will send data simultaneously and the more weld data the separate timers will send per time unit; i. e.
the higher the clock rate of the welds will be.

5.6 Baud rate

With the option Baud rate you can adjust how high the data transfer shall be (in bit/s) with that the
SPATZDataGrabber receives data from the timers.

The higher the baud rate is adjusted, the quicker data can be received and thus processed.

For best performance you should choose the highest possible baud rate of 115 200 bit/s.

This transfer speed does not mean any problem for contemporary computer generations.

NOTE:

The adjustment of the baud rate in the SPATZDataGrabber must correspond with the baud rate
adjusted in the timer with the aid of the AutoSPATZAS-01 software.

This means: The speed with that the SPATZDataGrabber receives weld data must be identical with
the speed with that the weld timer sends weld data.

5.7 Terminating SPATZDataGrabber

SPATZDataGrabber will be terminated with the option Quit

Addendum A: Settings of the Electrode Position Measuring/Capturing

before Welding

The recording of data can only be done in combination with the special software versions
SPATZDataGrabber (V2.2.0) and the software version for SPATZH6000 and SPATZH6000plus
(SPS30901.hex).

The desktop- or start-menue program-icon of the SPATZDataGrabber has to be clicked on with the
right mousekey. In the menu: features-shortcut (see screenshot) the ending (space key –b) has to be
suffixed.

A new window opens "COM1: Position VHZ (µm)“ (VHZ= Squeeze Time) (see lower screenshot )
through the menu item "show history" after starting the program. The electrode position before
welding is displayed there in µm.

Addendum B: Communication in Timer set via the Operating Device

SPATZBG-02 or with the Software AutoSPATZAS-01.

1. Activation of the SPATZDataGrabber in timer via the operating device SPATZBG-02.

In the SPATZBG-02 the SPATZDataGrabber is activated by following menu options:

- operator mode
- programming mode
- basic settings
- perm.data recording
- DATAGRABBER ACTIVE

and the baud rate for data transfer is set here.

2. In the AutoSPATZAS-01 Software the SPATZDataGrabber is activated in timer by the following

menu options:
Software / QS-data - perm. data recording

SPATZDataGrabber activation

and setting of the baud rate.

2011-04-27 Page 13
SPATZDataGrabber

In the follwing menu options:

basic settings / COM_connection

finally the COM connection must have the same id-number like the listed COM-connection at PC.
Otherwise no data can be received.
