1/26/2018 Green Tea For Fat Burn | F45 Challenge
Did you know Green Tea is the second most consumed beverage in Asian
countries after water? Green tea originated in China and is manufactured from
the plant Camellia sinensis and has been consumed for over 5000 years. Only
recently has green tea become popular in the westernised countries and the
health benefits known. It is believed the catechins and caffeine content in
green tea is responsible for the enhanced energy metabolism, resulting in fat
loss.
Due to the prevalence of obesity and this growing epidemic, additional research is needed to find
alternative methods for assisting in weight loss. Most individuals can agree they have tried dieting
and conventional medication in an attempt of losing weight without any long term success. Thus,
it is appealing to consumers to try a natural alternative which is safer than prescription drugs in
the hope to keep the weight off long term.
et al 1999). The enhanced fat oxidation and energy expenditure is not credited to the caffeine
content as a mixture with an equivalent caffeine content without the polyphenols, does not offer
the same powerful thermogenic effect within the body.
For positive weight management, green tea products must contain EGCG and caffeine within the
following range: 126 to 300 mg EGCG and 75 to 150 mg caffeine, with an EGCG: caffeine ratio of
1.8:1 to 4:1 per day (NHPD 2009). According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, 3 cups
of green tea daily will show positive fat burning benefits.
It is essential to make positive adjustments to eating habits and physical activity for positive fat
loss results. Research indicates losing 5%-10% of body weight is sufficient for beneficial effects on
cardiovascular disease and other obesity related health conditions.
