“I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” - 3 John 1: 4
Kathleen Davis
John D. Whittington
Thank goodness, summer is finally here, and hopefully it will be a time for some well-
needed rest, refreshment, and relaxation. But, please don’t forget the ongoing need for
reverence and renewal.
I hope that when you are at home you will be sure to worship with us “reverently” and
regularly each Sunday. And when you are away I hope you will find another place for
worship. If you do, bring me one of the bulletins.
If you are looking for some spiritual “renewal”, as I often am, I am offering the
possibility for some new books for reading or study during the summer. The following
will be available at church for you to borrow:
“The Case For Jesus” by Lee Strobel, “Just Like Jesus”; “In The Grip Of Grace”; and
“Facing Your Giants” by Max Lucado; “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis; “Through My
Father’s Eyes” by Billy Graham; “Encounters With Jesus” and “The Prodigal God” by
Tim Keller; “Rich in Years” by Jonathan Christoph Arnold; “Love Does” by Bob Geoff;
“Prayer” by Richard Foster; and “Being Well When We’re Ill” by Marva J. Dawn.
If you are looking for personal or small group “renewal” in Bible study check out our
church library where you can find several helpful study books including the
commentaries by William Barclay on all the books and letters of the New Testament,
along with lots of other books for general reading not listed above. And please don’t
forget to keep up the Covenant of Prayer every Tuesday, even throughout the summer.
Remember what I said early on; “The most important thing we as a church can do during
the search and transition time is to pray!”.
I pray for God to bless you all, and that this summer will be a safe, peaceful,
productive, and spiritual time.
Sincerely,
Bill Jackson
Interim II
P.S. Please try to keep current on your pledge payments for the summer, either in
person or by mail. There are two benefits. (1) You will not get behind in your pledge
and (2) it will help maintain the church’s budget cash flow during the summer.

THE MISSION TRIP IS ON FOR JUNE 24-29! We will be staying at Camp Crestfield,
195 Taggart Rd in Slippery Rock PA. Here’s a little reminder of what we’ll be up to:
Projects such as home building, repair, cleaning, client interaction, processing food
donations, and painting can be possible in the Mission Possible experience. In the past,
Crestfield has partnered with: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches, Shenango on the
Green, Computer Reach, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, World Vision, Feed
My Sheep, East End Cooperative Ministry, Thrifty Threads/Grove City Food Pantry.
The Wednesday on the Hill School Supplies for Puerto Rico project was a BIG
success. We collected enough supplies for 16 bags! Generous donations
helped us fill missing items and with postage and handling. We had nine
lovely, handmade bags donated and our youth hand painted seven canvas bags
to round out our commitment.
Our own Shawna Osniak is helping us partner with the fire department to present a
program on fire safety. One of the days is our favorite sports day and in August we
planning an “Unusual Hobby Day.” Local adults who participate in interesting hobbies are
invited to come share their stuff! Contact Kathy Davis or Nancy Daugherty. We might
have a beekeeper and a herpetologist and his pet boa constrictor!
The Tuesday Bible Study for Women is taking a summer hiatus. But they are sponsoring
two field trips. The first will be a visit to view the Maxo Vanka Murals at St. Nicholas
Catholic Church in Millvale followed by an examination of the architecture and menu at
Church Brew Works. The other will be a tour of The Kelso Museum of Near Eastern
Archaeology at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Dates for both trips are still firming
up. Please let Nancy Slezak or Kathy Davis know if you are interested in coming along.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT
Bernard Daddy, Chairperson of the Bubiashie District scholarship fund, recently sent
a summary report detailing their most recent awards to the young Ghanaian women scholars.
For the $6,090 dollars received they distributed funds to 70 students. The ages ranged from
14 to 24 years. 36% of the young women are in college and the other 64% are in high
school. They deny no applicants, thus the awards are quite small, but do encourage the
women to continue their education.
Thanks to all who contribute to this important mission in the name of our Lord Jesus.
Please continue to keep the Bubiashie District Churchs, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the
Bubiashie Scholarship Committee, as well as the students, and Joshua Heikkila, the West
Africa Liaison for the PC(USA), in your prayers. Also for Dr. McWilson ‘Koku’ Atakro, the
Executive Presbyter and Moderator for the West Volta Presbytery.
The Heist Family would like to thank everyone who took the time to donate food and money
to the Dassa Weekend Power Pack Back Pack program! The response of our Church family
truly overwhelmed us. We are so grateful to say we donated 80 pouches of juice, 57 mac and
cheese, 27 tuna salads with crackers, 33 cans of pasta, 28 cans of soup, 8 pouches of tuna, 7
dinner meals, 6 dry cereals, 80 oatmeal packets/bowls, 24 cereal bars, 214 (this is not a typo)
cups/pouches of apple sauce, 138 (again, this is not a typo) fruit cups, 63 ramen/cup of
noodles, 86 packs of crackers, 82 snack bars, 50 chips, 24 cookies, 12 puddings, 16 trail mix, 27
dried fruit, 16 peanut butter cups, and 3 jars of peanut butter!!! We thank you so very much
for your wonderful generosity! The items collected will help finish up this school year and get
the program started in the fall. Thank you again and may God bless everyone who was so
generous!
With love and gratefulness, Gregory, Elean, Sam, Seth, and Bella Heist.
