INVITATION FOR EXPRESSION OF

INTERESTFROMMALAWIAN OWNED COMPANIES

Following the initial phase of the Export Development project under which Export
Development Fund (EDF) and Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC)
called for expressions of interest from companies that had secured export
contracts and were interested in being assisted to execute the deals, the two
institutions EDF and MITC have embarked on an industrialization initiative, in the
second phase of the three year project, aimed at promoting light manufactured
products to diversify export base.

Expressions of interest are therefore being requestedfrom Malawian owned


companies that manufacture or can manufacture exportable products(regardless
of whether they currently export or not) to participate in the initiative by submitting
business growth proposals, focusing on what they are currently producing and
their plans. The business proposal should focus on products falling under the
following sectors and subsectors and submission of more than one application
by one companyIS ALLOWED:

1.  Agro-processing: Processing (value addition) of Cooking oil, Honey


products, Dairy products, Beverages, Meat and poultry products, Peanut
butter, Cereal products, Canned products, Chillies and spices, processing
of any agricultural product etc.
2. Textile and Leather: Production of Industrial wear (Work suits/Uniforms,
Boots etc.), Garments, Footwear, Fabric, Cotton Yarn, or Cotton lint.
3. Other Light Manufacturing products (including but not limited to):
Furniture (Including Cane Furniture), Packaging Material (Bottles, Cartons,
Sacks, Carrier Bags), Sanitary Wear, Cosmetics, Toiletries, ceramics and
pottery
4. Jewelry Making: Artisanal mining, cutting and polishing of Precious stones
/Gemstones and Jewelry Making.
5.  Electronics and Assembling of Parts: Cellphone and Computer
assembly, Electrical Appliances and Fittings,Motor Vehicle andMotor Cycle
assembly, Batteries, Solar Equipment etc.

Eligibility criteria and assessment:To qualify, the applicant must meet


following conditions;

a) Have a registered company, with a physical working place.


b) The company should be operational for at least a year (Except for Jewelry
making and Electronics & assembling of parts, where start-ups are
allowed). The company’s majority ownership must be by indigenous
Malawians.
c) Submit company profile, copies of proof of citizenship of Shareholders
(Information Page) and statements indicating financial performance
of the company for the past year (For start-ups inJewelry making
and Electronics & Assembling of Parts, there is no need for such
statements)
d) Submit a business proposal which includes a process flow indicating that
the goods produced will undergo some form of processing (value addition)
within the company and export market assessment section indicating that a
market is available for the targeted products.

Interested Malawiancompanies should submit their expressions of interest,


clearly marked “Export Development Project: Name of Product” to

Qualifiedapplicants will be called for an interview to discuss further their


submissions.

Deadline for receiving expressions of interest is 12:00 noon on Thursday,


31stMay 2018.
