SECTION 1 – OPERATION

1-1 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this manual is to augment, for mobile units, the existing ProSpeed service manuals. They are to be
used in conjunction with this supplement. This manual does NOT replace the installation or FMI documentation.

This supplement covers topics directly related to the ProSpeed Mobile CT System. This document does NOT cover
the operation or periodic maintenance of the mobile van.

The supplement is applicable to production systems from March 1, 1997.

This document should be kept readily available for reference. It is recommended it be kept along with other service
manual.

1-1-1 Special Consideration for ProSpeed Mobile CT System

• The operating environment of mobile CT system places added responsibilities on the system operator to
assure safe and effective operation.

• The power requirements are given in the ProSpeed preinstallation manual. For mobile system, the same
verification shown in the preinstallation manual must be done at every single operating location. It is the
responsibility of the mobile user to make sure power requirements specified in the preinstallation manual
are met at all operating locations.

• Each mobile CT system is equipped with radiation shielding in the van walls, ceiling, etc. to protect individ-
uals outside the van. It is the CT operator’s responsibility to ensure that any restriction on van siting, in
relation to buildings or people and/or duration of use at a single location, be followed in accordance with
the van manufacturer’s recommendations.

• Patient and operator access door to the scan room in a mobile system is interlocked to stop X–Ray if open-
ing during a scan. The interlock protects individuals from inadvertent exposure when entering the scan
room. However, interruptions of scanning often require rescanning, which increases exposure to the pa-
tient. Vans are equipped with visual ’X–Ray ON’ signs external to the scan room to warn against entry
during scanning, but the location of vans in parking lots and other public areas increases the opportunity
for unauthorized access and entry. The operator should take special care to employ all means available
to further control unauthorized access.

• Before transporting to a new location, place the table cradle in Table Out limit position and the table all
the way up. Also the gantry must be at the 25 degree backward position. The system power should be
turned off at Operator’s Console. Do not turn off the system with system breakers, because system needs
to provide a power to gantry for heating the detector.

1-1-2 Special Safety Considerations for Servicing Mobile CT systems

The design and operating environment of mobile CT systems place added responsibility upon service personnel to
avoid the risk of personal injury. Before servicing any mobile CT system, consideration should be given to the following
items.

• Removal of protective covers or production of X–Ray during servicing requires that service personnel take
whatever measures are necessary to protect against injury. Mobile CT systems are equipped with visual
’X–Ray ON’ signs external to the scan room to warn against entry during scanning, but the location of vans
in parking lots and other public areas increases the opportunity for unauthorized access and entry. Service
personnel should take special care in CT vans to use all means available to control traffic in potential dan-
ger areas in and around the van during servicing. Failure to do so could result in unnecessary radiation
exposure or other injury.

• Mobile CT systems are equipped with interlock on operator access door to the scan room. When X–Ray
is interrupted by the door interlock during patient scanning, the exposure will continue until the scan has
time out. The following exposure will abort if the door interlock remains open. Service personnel should
not get in habit of depending on door interlocks to protect themselves from accidental radiation exposure.

• Mobile CT systems are NOT equipped with X–Ray interlocks on service door. Unauthorized access
through service door can result in unexpected radiation exposure. It is the responsibility of service person-
nel to control access through the service door. Such door should either be locked or monitored for unau-
thorized traffic at all times.

1-2 PREINSTALLATION

1-2-1 Power Requirement

The specifications of all parameters for the power requirement are the same as the data shown in Preinstallation
manual (2124010) except for the Maximum voltage variation.

Maximum Voltage Variation : +6% to –5% for 60Hz among the sites where the mobile system will be connected.

Note:
The Mobile system is equipped with an engine generator. This generator provides the main power
of the van during transportation. The CT system should be turned off during the transportation, how-
ever, the generator provides a power for air conditioner and heater of DAS detector assy of the CT
system. Refer to the operator’s manual provided by Van company.

1-2-2 Site Environment

Refer to the Section 3 of Preinstallation manual (2124010) for

• Temperature and Humidity specifications

• Cooling Requirements

• Altitude

• Lighting

• Noise

• Electro Magnetic Interference

• Pollution

• Vibration Specification

When the engine generator works and van is installed properly, the above, except for altitude, EMI and pollution,
should not require any special care for mobile system.

1-2-3 Telephone Lines

Mobile CT systems are equipped with two separate telephone lines inside the van, one for voice and the other for
modem connection for service.

en the cinch–straps just to the point that the straps are straight and snug.

NOTICE
Do not Over–tighten the straps.

• Turn the CT system power off with the switch on the OC.

• If the system will not be on back–up power during transportation, turn power off at the main disconnect.

Note:
The CT system provides a power to Gantry to heat the detector, even when the CT system power
is turned OFF at OC. Do not turn off the system power at the PDB nor PDU.

3-1-2 Gantry Tilt Angle Adjustment

In this section, the tilt angle and the display will be adjusted. The gantry needs to be tilted to the mechanical limit during
the transportation not to damage the hydraulic cylinders.

1. Remove both side covers of the gantry.

2. Raise the Table to the Up–limit position.

3. Loosen the screws fixing the Tilt Switch Assy (Illustration 2–1) so that the tilt stopper does not touch it.

4. Turn the ’T6’ of DIP switch on TGP Board UP, and press the TEST SW twice. Confirm the gantry display shows:

TILT Position
002 XXXX

5. Turn the ’T3’ of DIP switch on TGP Board UP to unlock the interlock function.

6. Tilt the gantry backward and stop when the mechanical stopper touches the mechanical limit.

7. Set the gantry display to ’0507’ by turning the VR7 TG (variable resister for TG) on TGP Board.

8. Turn the ’T6’ and ’T3” switches down.

9. Confirm the gantry tilts from the forward limit to the backward limit.

Note:
When TGP Board is replaced with the spare part, the above adjustment is required.

10. Tilt the gantry backward to touch the mechanical stopper.

11. Adjust the position of the Tilt Switch Assy so that the switch is click by touching the metal plate, and tighten the
screws. The specific torque is 117[kg–cm].

Note:
The switch simply senses if the gantry is tilted or not, but it doesn’t stop the tilt of the gantry. Accurate
adjustment of the switch position is not required.

12. Confirm the switch works when the gantry is tilted back and forth several times.

13. Reinstall both side covers of the Gantry.

3-1-3 Other Installation

Refer to the section 8 of Installation manual (2124011). Item Number I1, I2, I3 and I4 in the TABLE 8–1 are done by
the van company. Follow the installation, system functional check, and system adjustment according to the Installa-
tion manual.

4-1 INTRODUCTION
The following procedures and/or manuals are equivalent to those of fixed systems. Refer to the appropriate manuals
furnished with systems.

• Functional Check

• Adjustment

• All Option Manual supplied with the kit

• Planned Maintenance (Note)

Note:
A few additional PM procedures are required for the mobile system. See the following section for
the differences.

4-2 PLANNED MAINTENANCE

The followings are required for the PM of Mobile system.

4-2-1 Stowed Light

Stowed light shows that the system is ready to be transported. Closing the expandable wall, tilting the Gantry to back-
ward limit, and system power–off are required. Check if the light is ON when one of them or some of them are not
yet done.

4-2-2 Air Pressure of PDU Isolators

Check the air pressure of the Isolators of the PDU for 30 [psi (pounds per square inch)].

4-3 REPLACEMENT
Some parts of the system were modified in order to fit to the mobile environment, and requires special process for
the replacement.

4-3-1 Operator’s Console

• Console:
The console itself is fixed on the floor with anchors and bolts. To move the console for any reason, remove
the bolts first. Covers on the console can be removed without removing the bolts.

• CRT Monitor:
The CRT Monitor on the OC is fixed to the top cover of the OC with metal bracket. The bracket is fixed
with screws at bottom of the CRT.

4-3-2 PDU
• PDU:
PDU is fixed on the floor with the air vibration isolators. To move or replace the PDU, remove them first.

• Covers:
The top cover of the PDU is connected to the wall with the stabilizers. To remove the top cover, remove
the stabilizers.

• PDU Support Bars:

Under the top cover, there are two support bars. To get access to the Panel Common PDU Board, remove
them. Note that there are three spacers between the support bars and the transparent cover.

• Panel Common PDU Board ( the circuit board on the top of the PDU):
Two modifications are done on this board such as the Stiffening bar underneath of the rear side of the
board, and RTV on three electric devices. To replace the spare part, put the RTV on the same devices
and reinstall the bar to the new board.

4-3-3 Gantry
• Gantry tilt switch:
The Gantry tilt switch is installed on the right bottom structure of the Gantry to detect whether the Gantry
tilts backward to the mechanical limit or not. The cable runs through the same route as oil tube (Illustration

SECTION 5 – THEORY

5-1 THE DIFFERENCES FROM FIXED SYSTEM

The systems installed in mobile have several modifications which are not applied to the fixed systems, as follows:

5-1-1 RTV Application On The Panel Common PDU Board

RTV (46–170137P1) need to be applied on some of the electric devices in the Panel Common PDU Board inside the
PDU. This is done to limit vibration during transportation. This should be done by the FE at the installation and at
any time this board is replaced. Note that the modification is not applied on fixed system and spare parts.

5-1-2 PDU Mounting

PDU cabinet is mounted on the Van floor with isolator. Stabilizers are also provided to limit vibration to the PDU cabi-
net. To remove the top cover of the PDU, the stabilizers need to be removed, because the stabilizers are installed
on the top cover of the PDU.

5-1-3 Stiffening Bars

Two stiffeners on the top of the Panel Common PDU Board and a stiffening bar at the rear edge of the Panel Common
PDU Board are added to limit vibration to this board.

5-1-4 Gantry Tilt Sensor

A switch is added on right side of the Gantry to detect the Gantry tilt to minus 25 degrees (backward). The Gantry
should be tilted all the way back (–25 degrees) during transportation in order to release the pressure in the hydraulic
cylinder.
