2. According to Drucker – “the father of modern management” a manager’s work can be
divided into five tasks.
3. First task involves setting objectives, developing strategies, plans and precise tactics and
allocating resources of people and money.
4. Second task involves organizing. Managers have to select people to perform the tasks.
5. To do the third task, managers need social skills of motivation and communication.
6. Fourth task requires managers to measure the performance of their staff to check
whether the objectives are being achieved.
7. Last task is to develop people – both the managers themselves and their managers.
8. When necessary, top managers have to consider the future and modify the objectives.
9. They also have to manage a business’s relations with customers.
