1. Disassembling
For disassembling the Blue Phantom², simply follow the mounting / screwing steps described under
assembling in the reverse order. Note that after each disassembling, the necessary adjustment during
re-assembling and the final test must be performed in all cases.

2. Assembling
For the assembling of the Blue Phantom², part Nr. M1013671, the following steps shall be performed.

Note: All screws must be fixed with „Loctite 222”!

2.1. Assembling of mechanical frame with Y-dimension.

Start with mounting the support flanges (M1231150, without Loctite), place a large rounded plate and
a large conic pillow on the top of each support flange (see the following pictures).

Then mount the support washer (M1231780) with a large rounded plate and a large conic pillow on top
of the front wall.

Mount the first frame part at the connector box side on the support flange (without Loctite).

On top of the front wall mount the frame part with the label “Made in Germany” (without Loctite).

“Made in Germany”

On the side where the connector box is located, take the Y-rail with sensor (M1025000) and the Y-
coupling shaft, put the coupling shaft into the frame and connect it to the rail, then mount the rail and
screw it with hexagon socket head screws, two of M4x25 (M0241550) and two of M4x12 (M0241300).

Take the Y-rail with scale (M1025010). Manually move the Y-carriage on both Y-rails parallel to the end
of one corresponding side, put the rail with the square hole on the coupling shaft, now mount the rail
and fix it with hexagon socket head screws, two of M4x25 (M0241550) and two of M4x12 (M0241300).

2.2. X/Z-dimension and Y-motor

Note: Mount the X/Z subassembly on a flat and stable table outside the tank first and then insert it into
the tank.

Put the connection tube (M1231065) with a coupling shaft (M1231086) inside in front of you on the
table, place the Z-dimension guide rail with ruler (M1025060) to the left hand side of the connection
tube and the Z-dimension guide rail without ruler (M1025050) to the right hand side of the Z-connection
tube. Then manually move the Z-sliding carriage on both Z-rails to the lowest position. Connect the Z-
connection tube to the Z-Rail, fix the connection tube using on each side two hexagon socket head
screws M3x16 (M0240190).

Make sure that the z-carriage are parallel on both rails, if not, you can
adjust them by opening the two hexagon socket head screws M3x8 (M0240300)
and rotate the hand wheel on the needed side.

Mount the X-rail on the attachment pin and fix it using two hexagon socket head screws M6x12
(M0243800).

Fix the cable from the X-sensor with a cable fixation (M0B03900) and a hexagon socket head screw
M3x5 (M0240290) on the top of the Z-rail (see picture).

Place the X-motor in the fixation and fix it with two hexagon socket head screws M3x10 (M0240600).

Put the X/Z mechanics into the tank.

Fix the mechanics with four hexagon socket head screws M6x12 (M0243800).

For mounting the Z-motor, use two hexagon socket head screws M3x35 (M0202700), and for the
Y-motor, two hexagon socket head screws M3x12 (M0240400). Install the cables under the Z-motor
according to the following picture.

3. Adjustment and final test
For adjusting the Blue Phantom², the following steps shall be performed.

Drive the mechanics in all three dimensions to the middle (zero) position on the ruler and set the “Zero
Position” with the hand control: press the zero buttons for X, Y and Z.

3.1. Frame leveling

Start at one of the measuring points as indicated below and define it as zero (fix the position of the dial
gauge and then press the zero button). Next, move the dial gauge to the next measuring point, and
adjust the frame with the leveling wheel to zero. Do the same at the remaining two measuring points.
Repeat this procedure another time.

For easier access to the X-rail, move the mechanics to the uppermost position in Z and towards one of
the tank walls in Y. To level the X-rail, move the X-carriage to the end of the sensor head side of the
X-rail. Put the dial gauge on the carriage for the measurement (fix the position of the dial gauge and
press the zero button). Drive the carriage to the other end and also push the dial gauge to this side. For
adjusting, open the two hexagon socket head screws M3x5 (M0240290) and rotate the hand wheel on
the motor side. Repeat this procedure another time.

Note: Only use the wheel on the motor side for adjustment, never on the sensor side.

3.2. Orthogonality verification

For the correct positioning behavior of the phantom, it is very important that after the leveling of the
mechanics according to the water surface, the three dimensions are always perpendicular to each other
(orthogonality), independent of the tank walls. For the orthogonality verification, plumb-ups are mounted
outside of opposite tank walls or on the mechanics in a way that they are only fixed at one point and
have otherwise freedom to swing. The plumb-ups should be fixed opposite to each other so that an
alignment using the adjustment cap is possible by looking through the phantom walls. The test can start
when the plumb-ups stop swinging (put them in a cup of water to enforce this).

10 | Adjustment and final test | Blue Phantom² Assembling Service Instruction

Orthogonality of X and Z: Position the mechanics to the lower Y limit and upper Z limit and in X in the
way that when looking through the front wall, the plumb-ups at the front wall, at the rear wall and the
vertical line marking on the adjustment cap are superimposed. Write down the X-position reading on
your hand control in the final test protocol. Then position the mechanics to the lower Z-limit. If the lines
mentioned above remain superimposed over the whole distance in Z, X and Z are orthogonal to each
other. If the lines are not superimposed anymore, move the mechanics in X-direction with the hand
control until they are superimposed again. Note down the new position value in X from the hand control
in the final test protocol. Repeat the same procedure to verify the orthogonality of X and Z at upper Y-
limit (turn the holder with the adjustment cap 180° and checking the orthogonality from the other side).
After this, turn it back to its original position.

If it becomes necessary (see tolerance in the test protocol) to correct the orthogonality of X and Z, you
have the following possibilities.

Open the two screws M4x10 on each Z-rail, then you can use the two setscrews on the underside of
each rail to adjust the orthogonality.

Blue Phantom² Assembling Service Instruction | Adjustment and final test | 11

Orthogonality of Y and Z: Position the mechanics to the lower X-limit and upper Z-limit and in Y in the
way that when looking through the left side wall, the plumb-ups at this side wall, at the opposite side
wall and the vertical line marking on the adjustment cap are superimposed. Determine the position in Y-
dimension from the hand control and note it down in the final test protocol. Then position the mechanics
to the lower Z-limit. If the lines mentioned above remain superimposed over the whole distance in Z, Y
and Z are orthogonal to each other. If the lines are not superimposed anymore, move the mechanics in
Y-direction with the hand control until they are superimposed again. Note down the new position value
in Y from the hand control in the final test protocol. Repeat the same procedure to verify the
orthogonality of Y and Z at the upper X limit.

If it becomes necessary (see tolerance in the test protocol) to correct the orthogonality of Y and Z, you
have the following possibilities.

Open the two hexagon socket head screws M3x16 (M0240190) on both sides the tank. Then you can
adjust the orthogonality with a threaded pin M4x10 (M0257600) parallel on both sides the tank.
