GRAMMAR II

When analysing a sentence, first delimit the components of the whole sentence then
identify the subject and the predicate and the heads in each one, identify subordinate
or dependent clauses and then the words in each of the clauses.
This is an example of the syntactic analysis of sentences you will have to do in all the
TPs until the end of the semester.
Don’t underline or highlight anything extra.

Analyse the following sentence:

Richard knew that his father was on the way to Aquitaine to settle matters there.

Identify the subject and the predicate then identify the main clause, the
subordinate clauses and the dependent clauses if there were. Then analyze the
words in each of the clauses.
