General Information
An update to SPI2 is now available. This document describes how to access and install this update, SPI²
2018A.
This new version of SPI² 2018A;

 replaces SPI² issue 2016A which will no longer be supported or updated
 can be downloaded as a 5.7GB file (preferred method)
 ordered in USB format, via the TIPSS software order form
IMPORTANT: Copies of SPI² issue 2018A are not sent out on USB to currently active SPI² license
users. Please refer to How to Order TIPSS Software below if you require a new copy via USB.
SPI² 2018A must be installed to enable users to download all future updates. This is a requirement to
keep the software current and up to date with the latest Perkins information.
Notes
 Refer to System and Software Bulletin PMB 995 for online licensing information
 You must have administrator rights to install SPI2 software
 You will temporarily need approximately 23GB of free storage space on your hard drive for the
download process. Once SPI² is installed, the install files & downloaded zip file can be removed
releasing 15GB
 Screenshots shown are utilising the Windows default zip tool on Windows 7. The screens on your
computer may differ from these
 You will need to contact your online licensing administrator if installing SPI2 for the first time. If
you do not know who this is contact ESD_support@perkins.com for advice

 To activate your SPI2 license you must be connected to the internet while SPI2 is open. If you are
not online you must follow the ‘Manual Activation SPI2 2018A’ instructions
 Product and software updates released for 2018 cannot be downloaded using previous versions
such as 2015A or 2016. SPI2 2018A must be installed to pick up all future updates
How to Download Perkins SPI2 2018A

Select the following link or log-on to the Perkins secured internet and navigate to:
Product Support>TIPSS>SPI2>SPI2 2018A Download

1. Read the following instructions, then click the ‘Download SPI2 2018A’ button on the webpage.
2. Select ‘Save’ (preferred method), or select ‘Save as’.
3. At the bottom of the Internet Explorer page, you will see the following bar. For further information
on download speeds, click ‘View downloads’ and refer to the guidelines and timings below.

4. If you chose ‘Save’, the zip file will be found in your ‘Download’ folder (pictured below), or if you
chose ‘Save as’, it will be saved where you specified.
SPI2 is a large file and download duration will depend on your internet connection. See the guidelines
below:

NOTE:
Mbps – Megabits per second. Used for advertised line speed from ISP.
KBps – Kilobytes per second. Actual download speed registered on computers.
MBps – Megabytes per second. Actual download speed registered on computers.
How to Extract Perkins SPI2 2018A after Download
1. Extract the contents of this zip file to your C:\ drive

This will take approximately 5-10 minutes depending on your computer speed.

Make sure the destination is showing C:\ as below:
2. Open the SPI2_2018A folder (Fig 1) and double-click / run the install(.bat) file (Fig 2)

3. Please follow the on-screen prompts.
4. When the installation is complete you may;

a. (Optional) Transfer the C:\SPI2_2018A folder to a removable media device (e.g. USB pen)
for use on additional computers.
Or
b. Delete the C:\SPI2_2018A folder and .zip file which was downloaded to free up space on
your hard drive. (Warning: Do not delete the ‘C:\Perkins_SPI2’ folder)

How to Install – SPI² Issue 2018A from a USB
Existing SPI2 2016A users

Install SPI2 2018A over the previous version 2016A. Your license information will be retained.
Installation for Active and New Users

Instructions for Microsoft Windows7TM, Windows 8TM and Windows 10TM.
Insert the new Perkins SPI² issue 2018A USB pen drive into your USB socket and left click ‘Start’
1. Select ‘Computer’
2. Select your USB drive
3. Locate and double-click the ‘install’(.bat) icon
4. Follow the on-screen prompts
NOTE: SPI2 will install directly on to your C:\ drive and creates a folder called ‘Perkins_SPI2’
5. Once installation is complete, launch the program. The system will prompt you to license the
program. Select ‘Yes’.
NOTE: If the program does not launch automatically after install, then double-click on the SPI2
desktop icon.
Select ‘Yes’ and refer to ‘How to License SPI2 2018A’ within this document.
How to license SPI2 2018A

New SPI2 Users
Follow the above installation process and request a new activation ID from your online licensing
administrator. Once you have received your activation ID, launch SPI2 2018A and continue with the
following steps.
Note: To activate your SPI2 license you must be connected online while SPI2 is open. If you are not
online you must follow the ‘Manual Activation SPI2 2018A’ instructions.

 Select ‘Online’ (License screen 1)
 Select ‘Activate’ (License screen 2)
 Enter the activation ID, user name and PC serial number, if known. If the PC serial number is not
known enter user name again then select ‘Activate’ (License screen 3)
SPI2 is now licensed and will show license details, including a new serial number, activation ID and
expiry date.
The above message will appear when successfully activated. Select ‘OK’.

Manual Activation SPI2 2018A

Request an activation ID from your online licensing administrator and explain that you do not have online
connectivity. They will send you an activation ID.
Install SPI2 version 2018A.

From the SPI2 license screen, select ‘Manual’ (License Screen 1) then select ‘Next’.
Select ‘Activate’ (License Screen 2) then select ‘Next’.
Enter the activation ID, adding your ‘user name’ and ‘PC serial number’ (If known), enter user name
again if not known.

Select ‘Save request’ and save the request.xml file onto your desktop. Send this file to your online
licensing administrator.
Your administrator will send you back the ‘response.xml’ file. Save this file to your desktop.
Select ‘Load and activate’ then locate the ‘response.xml’ file from your desktop, then select ‘Open’
The above message will appear, select OK to activate SPI2.

How to Renew an SPI2 License

The licensing process for SPI2 will allow you to renew your license 60 days before license expiry 305 +
60 (365 days).
During the final 60 days of a license, SPI2 will launch a countdown warning screen which will advise you
that your SPI2 license can be renewed (if required).
Right-click anywhere in the license information screen and select ‘copy’. Paste the license details into an
email and send to your online licensing administrator requesting a license renewal.
Once renewed by your administrator, the next time you launch SPI2 while connected online. SPI2 will
automatically pick up the renewal and extend your license by 365 days plus the remaining days of your
license.

Transferring an SPI2 2016A or Above License from an Old PC to a New PC.

IMPORTANT: If SPI2 cannot be deactivated from the old computer because the hard drive is lost, stolen
or otherwise corrupt, contact your online licensing administrator to revoke and replace the license.
Launch and enter the SPI2 catalogue, select ‘Help’, then ‘Licensing’
Hover your mouse over the license information, right-click and copy then paste the details into a
reference document. Take note of the activation ID.

At the bottom of this screen, it will show the below on-screen prompt.

Online is selected by default, click ‘Next’

Select ‘Deactivate’, then ‘Next’
Select ‘OK’ and install SPI2 2018A on the new computer.
Once the license has been deactivated from the old computer, enter the same activation ID (as noted
above) for the new install.
This will transfer the original license period from the old computer to the new one.

User Requirements for Updating

SPI2 supports your access to update information by ensuring that the latest build lists, part numbers,
supersessions and documentation are always available.
Following the release of version 2018A, updates will only be sent to this version. All earlier versions of
SPI2 should be considered out of date and their use discontinued. Updates are accessed only by
licenced users with a CWS ID. If you do not have a current CWS ID this must be obtained before a
license is granted. Dealers may obtain their own CWS ID via their distributor. The process for this is
provided in PMB726 – SPI² Policy.
How to Order SPI2 2018 Software

SPI2 2018A will again be made available on new Perkins branded 16 GB USB pen drives for customers
who cannot download from the internet.
Although there is no charge for individual USB pen drives, please keep your order to the minimum
required to cover your network installation.
The Perkins branded USB pen drives allow you to install SPI2 2018A software on multiple computers.
