62. The proven ability to make complex decisions.

My current position brings with it many challenges that require a confident manager
who can make timely and accurate decisions. I support the decisions of my team
where they are made following appropriate research, and sound verification has
been documented. I am an advocate for data driven decision making and make all of
my decisions based on a careful analysis of the facts. I see that poor decisions are
often made without timely consideration or sufficient evidence to substantiate the
decision, or are driven by emotions and perceptions that may not be correct.

My decision making process involves identifying that a decision needs to be made,

the gathering of factual information, conferring or consulting as appropriate,
analysing various options, assessing risks, drawing conclusions based on outcomes,
selecting and implementing the method, and then evaluating the effectiveness of
the decision.

I am conversant with Company A’s authority hierarchy and understand what

decisions I am able to make independently and what may need consultation, review
or further approval. My responsibilities as an X with Company A need me to make
complex decisions on an independent basis, daily. These decisions are related to
personnel management, including how to manage performance, hiring decisions, the
implementation of training programs, and operational management issues that
come hand in hand with my role.

Recently, a staff management decision had to be made regarding locating my

department’s employees after an influx of staff within the organisation. I consulted
our change area for their advice on staff relocation issues, gathered information on
each of the three available options including timeframes and cost, and ruled out one
option based on refurbishment costs. I then called a departmental meeting,
presented the options to staff, and called for comments. After analysing staff
comments and the risks of moving to another building (such as phone number
mobilisation, staff morale, etc.), I came to a decision based on staff input, cost,
timeframes, and risk mitigation strategies, and implemented the move. Following
the relocation, I sent out a feedback questionnaire to staff to determine staff
perception of the move, morale and any technical issues that arose. I then
submitted the results to our change area for use with future staff relocations.

I also make technical decisions multiple times daily about approval of expenditure
and technical strategies and use the same decision making process as documented
earlier. Further details of my technical accountabilities are outlined in my resume.
