Section 1 : CONTEXT (Give background information about the artifact)

1. What was the project? What were you asked to do? What general steps did you take to complete
your project?
“In this project, I was asked to…”
- In this project, I was asked to read and analyze the idea of invisibility in Ellisons book,
The Invisible Man. Ellison gave out his idea of what it meant to be invisible and now I
had to create an essay expressing my idea of what it meant to be invisible. I created a
CRA to give out my opinion behind the meaning of the word “invisibility”
“We/I completed our project by…”
- I completed this project by writing an MLA style essay based on the questions asked.
Coming up with three drafts and a final piece, each being improved on more and more
the first draft being revised by a peer and the second evaluated by our advisor . A timed
writing was made first and it was followed by three different drafts before getting to the
final piece. Seminars were conducted every week on Fridays to have a class discussion
on what we all thought invisibility was, bringing forward pieces of evidence and
selections from the book.

2. What is the artifact you will present in your senior defense? What was the purpose of the artifact?
Why did you produce this?
“My artifact is a…”
- The artifact that I will present for senior defense is my final CRA created. The purpose of
this artifact was to express my knowledge and understanding of what invisibility means.
We also learned about the explicit and implicit meaning of text throughout the reading.
The exploration on the motif of invisibility was visited constantly due to the many
examples and hints given about being invisible.
“I/we created this to…”
- I created this to share out my idea of invisibility just how Ellison portrayed his idea on his
novel. I also connected invisibility to a modern day social issue, that being how
immigrants are the one of the many groups to prepare for our CAP project which
followed up after.

3. What content knowledge did you gain by creating the a rtifact? Be specific.
Ex: Knowledge about geography, government, economics, historical events, literature, poetry, writing,
formulas, scientific procedures or principles.
Ex. for Wildcard only: Knowledge about yourself or your community. Insights about life.
“To create this artifact, I had to learn about...”
- To create this artifact, I had to learn about the format of a CRA. What is to be included,
fonts, spacing, citing, etc. I also had to learn about MLA style to get prepared for college
essays and also to be prepared with the importance of detail since there is a format it
should follow to be acceptable as a MLA style essay. Citing sources also since this is
crucial for not being accused of plagiarizing thus leading to being kicked out of your
school.
“This artifact demonstrates my knowledge of…”
- This artifact demonstrates my knowledge of writing and historical events due to the time
in which the book takes place, which was when racism and oppression existed toward
blacks. During these times labor unions weren’t as strong as before but colored people
created unions and fought for their rights and equality as workers. Since during this time
also Jim Crow laws have been set into place to separate colored people. It was easy for
the oppression of colored people due to the great migration which had all these colored
people moving from the South for a “better” life.
“Some of the challenges I faced while trying to learn this are…”
- Some of the challenges I faced while trying to learn this are my citing since I’ve never
cited any work before and also how to piece together my essay since Writing isn’t my
strongest subject/point.
“I overcame these challenges by…”
- I overcame these challenges by asking peers and my teacher Mr. Canek for help on how
to cite my sources properly and utilized any example worksheets or documents at my
disposal to plan out my essay.
“Some concepts I still don’t understand are…”
“To improve my understanding of these concepts, I plan to…” OR “If I could create this artifact again, I would include
information about _________________ by _________________”

4. What learning outcomes (skills) did you develop while completing this artifact? Review these
rubrics for ideas: Written, Oral, Visual, Knowledge & Thinking, Collaboration, & Agency.

“To create this artifact, I had to learn how to…”

- To create this artifact, I had to learn about creating an acceptable CRA which followed
it’s format. Written communication was a major learning outcome I learned due to my
growth with writing an effective essay. Writing has always been my weakest place but
overtime with practice and feedback I was able to improve on my writing skills which
granted me a higher grade. Oral communication also since through the course of reading
the book we held class seminars to discuss sections on the book and explore even more
the definition of invisibility. Focusing mainly on the Interpersonal Communication section
since I listened to the ideas of others and shared my own ideas out to the class, and also
I asked questions to get a clarification on things I didn’t quite understand. Collaboration,
since with the seminars happening you had to participate in order to get a grade so I
spoke with my class about certain sections or to discuss about my opinion on something,
being open to the thoughts of others. Knowledge & thinking was also a big learning
outcome since I didn’t know how to create an essay in MLA format, being my first time I
used my resources, asked peers and the teacher for help when needed. Also when it
came to connecting invisibility to a modern day social issue since I had to carefully pick
an issue and support my claim.
“This artifact demonstrates my ability to…”
- This artifact demonstrates my ability to write an effective essay about a topic that I had to
analyze and build ideas from.
“Some of the challenges I faced while developing these skills were…”
“I overcame these challenges by…”
“Some skills I continue to struggle with are…”
“To improve these skills, I plan to…” OR “If I could create this artifact again, I would…”

5. How does this artifact demonstrate that you prepared to be a Global Ambassador?
Remember, a Global Ambassador is an LASGS graduate who exhibits habits of mind reflecting our school values of
agency, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, community involvement, and social justice.
“Knowing about _________________ has prepared me to be a Global Ambassador because…”
- Knowing about effective writing and deep thinking/building has prepared me to be a
Global Ambassador because I exhibit the values of critical thinking due to the deep
digging of an author's meaning on one simple word “invisible”. Collaboration since over
the course of reading the book seminars were held to discuss about the events in the
book. Communication also by sharing out my own ideas as well as hearing the thoughts
of others.
“The skill/ability to ___________________ has prepared me to be a Global Ambassador because now I am prepared
to…”
- The skill/ability to know these learning outcomes has prepared me to be a Global
Ambassador because now I am prepared to use what I’ve learned when in college and
also for discussions with people in school or out of school.
6. How does this artifact demonstrate your personal growth or the growth of your relationships with others?
“Before this project, I used to feel _________________ (emotion) when _____________ (situation or issue). Now, I
____________ (how you have changed).
“This project helped me to develop my personal identity by…”
“This project helped me improve my __________________ (personal/ professional) relationships with others by…”
- Before this project, I used to feel uncomfortable when seminars took place. Now, I feel a
lot more confident with sharing my own ideas and thoughts on topics with a group of
people.
- This project helped me develop my personal identity by giving me my own voice to say
anything that I had in mind.
