for prescriptions
If you have Medicare coverage but still have trouble paying for your prescriptions, there are charities that may be able to
help. For drugs your Medicare Part D drug plan covers, the amount these charities pay will count toward the $4,750 you
must spend to get catastrophic coverage in 2013. However, for it to count, the prescription must be on your plan’s list of
covered drugs (formulary) and you must buy it at a pharmacy in your plan’s network. Some of these programs may also
help pay for drugs Medicare Part B covers, such as oral anti-cancer drugs. Depending on the program, you may be able
to get help even if you don’t have Medicare.

* To decide if you’re eligible, these programs may consider your income, cost of living (dependent on your family size), and medical
expenses (including insurance premiums, doctor and hospital expenses, and what you pay for your prescription drugs). You may
qualify even if your income is high if your medical expenses are also high or you have a lot of people in your household. Income
figures are based on the Federal Poverty Guidelines, which change every year between February and March.
