GTE Sylvania presents the Modular Recessed
Vanguard our newest lndoor Mercu ryl lvletala rc
(H.l.D.) product series designed primarily for
indoor commercial and institutional applications.
The new l\4odular 2 x 2 Recessed Series is de-
signed {or inverted tee grid ceilings and is offered
with a variety of shielding media including a Bat-
wing distribulion lor schoolroom lighting. Waltage
is no limitation as the series is available in 175,
250, and 400 watt lvlercury or 400 watt Melalarc
models. To augment this versatility we add Safety
Lighting Systems, fusing, and encapsulated ballast
modifications.
The Modular Recessed Vanguard's low protile is
only 101/2" overall height which minimizes plenum
requirements. lts compactness of design allows

the unit lo be installed directly into the inverted
tee grid ceiling opening. The ballast compartment
is supplied with an integral wiring box and can be
installed and serviced from inside or {rom the out-
s ide ol the fixture body.
The series is available in a variety of lamp types,
wattages, and voltages. When combined with any
of the available shielding media the outcome is
high efficiency and controlled brightness. (See
page 4 for photometric delails.)
ln applications requiring special attention to noise
levels, the new Modular Vanguard offers an encap-
sulated ballast option. The encapsulation acls as a
muffler and reduces the normal noise level"

LONG LIFE CONSTRUCTION
Fixtute Housing is i;22 gauge cold rolled sleel,
bonderized and linished with white high tempera-
ture baked enamel having a minimum reflectance
of 86%. An aluminum heal/light reflector finished
with white porcelain enamel is positioned between
the lamp and the fixture housing.
Powet-Pak integral ballast assembly is separate
Jrom the fixture housing and is constructed of
heavy aluminum extrusions having a minimum
thickness of.090. The Power-Pak is non-magnetic,
preventing sympathetic vibrations being transmit-
ted from the coil, and is isolated lrom the fixture
housing by loam pads assuring extremely quiet
operation. The Power-Pak is equipped with an
inlegral junction box at one end with an easily
removable access plate. The junction box and end
caps are #2Q gauge cold rolled steel. The whole
assembly is finished with gray acrylic paint applied
by Electrophoretic Process and baked in high
temperature ovens. The sides lacing the lamp
compartment are finished with white baked enamel.
Thetmal Baniet-A 12"x12" tempered glass
thermal barrier is installed between the lamp and
acrylic plastic shieldings. ll is not required lor glass
sh ield ings.
