A forced Convection heat transfer correlation of rarefied gases cross-flowing over a circular cylinder, Experimental
Thermal and Fluid Science, 80 (2017) 327-336, 2017
Abstract
1- The study of behavior of heat transfer of rarefied gases not only in atmospheric layer but also in outside atmospheric layer.
2-Three regimes are seen and in continuum regime the effect of Knudsen number was lesser than the slip and transition regimes.
3-The effect of Knudsen number and Reynold number were analyzed on the basis of empirical correlation of forced convection.
Keywords: Prandtl number, Continuum flow, Slip flow, Transitional Flow, Nusselt number
Methodology
1- The experiment was conducted in a specific setup to control different parameters like pressure, Velocity and temperature.
2- A four wire method of potentiometer was used to get precise resistance values of the specimen.
3- A correlation of heat transfer from forced convection was nonlinear and regression analysis was done by MAT lab.
Summary of Results
1- At the same Reynolds number, the heat transfer decreased as the pressure decreased.
2- At the same pressure, the Nusselt number decreased as the Reynolds number decreased.
3-There was a Less effect of pressure in the continuum flow so Hilpert’s empirical correlation was used for heat transfer flow.
4-The transfer of heat over a circular cylinder through rarefied gases is related to the number of Reynolds, Prandtl and Knudsen.
5-A correlation was made to obtain heat transfer through rarefied gases on a circular cylinder in slip regime and transition flow.
Main Conclusions
1-In the continuum region there was a slight influence of Knudsen number in the heat transfer.
2-Knudsen plays an important role in heat transfer in the regimes transitional and slip flow.
