Connect Flashcard
An app that provides users with the tools to
learn a language efficiently, but surprisingly
fun. This is my first project as a UX designer
and it is here were I learnt the processes and
tools to use in order to create those blissful
experiences.

Competitor
Analysis
The three competitors to Connect were:

GoConqr
Quizlet
Vocabulary Builder

For Vocabulary Builder - Their standout features would

include their game like approach to the learning process, by
learning a few words and its uses, it would complete that
level and go to the next stage
For Quizlet - Their standout features include their use of
mini tests and fun interactions, in order to allow users to
enjoy learning a language and also to become proficient in
it
For GoConqr - Has a few major drawbacks and the only
reason why its a little successful, is because of its graphical
designs. Most of it drawbacks are minor UX issues, that
hasn't been addressed.

User Research
After conducting the user research, our main goal was to make the
learning process a lot more fun and engaging, this was done using three
main methods:

1 2 3
Provide a lot of examples to Make the app visually Create a system that will grant
allow users to get used to inviting, fun and engaging users a sense of achievement once
practice and practice they hit various point in their
learning stages.

User Personas

Rose Brandy needs an app where she can practice a lot, ask question about the language
Problem and its usage and quickly interpret different sentences and language because it would
increase farah in her confidence, mastery over the language and allow her to quickly

Statement
overcome precarious scenarios without any stress or tensions due to any
misunderstandings

We believe that by creating a translator app that allows Rose to:

Hypothesis Practise the language through AI/bots or if possible through real people
Learn the language through various methods inc. games and quizzes

Statement
Write a sentence and quickly getting a translation to it, maybe through a translation t

We will achieve satisfaction and competency over the language through a more
productive and user-engaging approach.

Information Overall layout had to be simple, but would need to go through a few
screens in order to learn a word so that it would reduce the cognitive
overload (having all the exercises all in one page). As a result it made

Architecture the process of learning a new word, seem easy and less daunting

Wireframing & Ideas and concepts were quickly drawn out on paper in order to
visualise and communicate to my tutors and mentors, how the app is
going to function and what its going to look like (mostly describing

Prototyping the layout of the app during this stage)

High-Fidelity
Prototype

During this stage, i prototyped the app and designed how the app was actually going to look like
using Adobe XD. This was my first attempt at creating a prototype and from then on, found out
how exciting prototyping can be.

Actually thinking about how the various elements (icons, buttons) are going to compliment each
other and how they're going to impact the users, made me re-iterate it more than I thought was
necessary, in order to bring the best possible version of the app to the users before the usability
test was conducted.

Usability
Test Script
At this stage, we made users go
through 5 different tasks that we
thought would be mostly used.

Usability
Test Report
Some of the main problems included:

Fonts/Icons were too small

Some of the screens looked dull
No indication on where to go next
Word choices

Some of the many changes that were

made included:

Fonts/Icons were enlarged

Added various colors, to make it
more attractive, while still sticking to
the simple theme that we chose
beforehand
Created various cues in order to help
guide them through the process
Changed some of the wordings that
were used in order to be more
precise and reading friendly.
