 Who is more important? Parents or classmates?

Classmates and parents both has a great impact on a child's success in school but

definitely classmates has more important influence than parents. Some people believe that

children usually spend a lot of time with friends. On the other hand some may believe in

parents great influence only and I think that is all absolutely correct either classmates or

parents, they were both have contribution in our school life. But from what i read, James S.

Coleman an American sociologist, theorist, and empirical researchersaid that "A child's learning

is a function more of the character of his classmates than those of the teacher." So, depends on

that I believe classmates are more important than parents for your success in school because of

they spending more time with you, explaining some subjects and cultivating your characteristic.

At school period children spend most of their time together. They study together, play

together and write exams together. Classmates are whom a kid contact most after the teacher

in school and will therefore have much impact on his achievements in school. As we know

learning hour in indonesia is from 7 a.m until 3 p.m, which takes 8 hour to spend with our

classmates, it is a long time and many things can possibly happened. When you learn at school,

of course you will have a school assignment and homework, they were both can be done

individually or in groups. Then, if you have a home work in a group of course you will have extra

time with your classmates. During high school time, you are going to spend at least 3 years with

your classmates, in case your school does not have rule that you will be separated with your

classmates everytime you are going to go to the next grade. But, if there is no rule like that,

certainly you are going to have a lot of moment, experience and memory with your classmates.

While learning in class you must have some chapter of some subjects that you do not

understand right? And there is one of your classmates who understand it very well. Therefore,

supposing you do not understand it go ask your classmates for some help to explain it. Since

you and your classmates are in the same age, they will explain it to you in a good way and a lot

easier, because they are going to explain it as they understand it.

 While one of your classmates explaining the subject to you, he or she should be a way

more patient than the teacher, because they will explain it step by step until you understand it.

Also, when you getting bored while they explain it to you, you can just take a break and talk

about anything or play something. So, it will be more fun to study with your classmates.

Your interactions with classmates not only for education purpose but also for your daily

socialization. Unconsciously, you will get into arguments with your classmates which make you

see other way you see things. For example, you and your classmate are discussing about how

technology can change quickly these days. You think it makes everything humans do more

efficient and there’s no problem with that. But your classmate doesn’t think the same way, he

thinks that technology makes people lazy and it’s bad for environment if it’s too much. Whether

you agree or not, it will affect the way you think about that certain issue. Because it happens

almost everyday, you can be more tolerant toward others opinion. You also usually share

hobbies with your classmates.As well as a competition between you and your classmates, which

is a common thing that will naturally happened.Also, you can receive more insights by sharing

different interests. If you end up interested in your classmates’ hobbies, you will gain more

skills and that’s not bad at all.

Seeing that our lives in school are influenced by many people, especially parents and

classmates. Of course there is one of them that has bigger part for it. Such as our parents, they

are certainly very dominant in our lives, because we live with them from the baby until now. As

well as classmates, but for our life at school classmates who is more influential, since the time

we spend in school is much in use to meet classmates compared with meet parents. In brief,
