ELECTRICAL SUPPLY- TRANSFORMATION OF ENERGY AND ELECTRONIC

COMPONENTS
TITLE
ELECTRICAL SUPPLY- DOMESTIC WIRING AND ACCESSORIES

1.1 Introduction
The need for an open-ended laboratory activity is emphasized in enhancing
independent learning activities and inculcating creativity and innovation of
students.
Diversity Factor (D.F) is a total demand at any particular time divided by total
load installed. This means that the size of devices and cable installed are not
necessarily follow the total load installed. In this exercise student are required
to design electrical supply for a single storey building. The supply is a single
phase system which the voltage is 240 Volts.
1.2 Objectives
The objectives of this open-ended laboratory activity are:

PREAMBLE 1. To propose the details and comprehensive layout for the transmission and
distribution of electrical supply from Generating Power Plant (GPP) to the
transmission substation, distribution substation and finally to the residential
building in Pasir GudanG by indicating the voltages at each stages in the system.

2.To propose a sample of schematic diagram and provide a simple design of

electrical power supply for the distribution of electricity from Kilowatt Hour
Meter to the various electrical appliances e.g. fan, lamp, air conditioning unit,
Switch Socket Outlet (SSO) and etc of building in PG.

1.3 Learning Outcomes

At the end of the laboratory activities, students would be able to:
1. Illustrate and explain the concepts and theory of electrical distribution
system from power generating plant to the consumers
2. Provide the layout of building complete with the devices and indicate the
maximum current demand of a single storey building by using diversity factor
and draw a schematic diagram for the building.
3. Analyse and choose the suitable size of devices and cable to be used.
4. Work in group to undertake the task and produce the relevant
technical report.

2 Problem Statement
The design of electrical supply usually over design and caused wastages in
electrical-generated as well as generation, distribution and installation cost.
PROBLEM One of the methods to reduce wastages in design electrical supply is apply D.F
STATEMENT to the design.

Students are required to prepare a report highlighting the relevancy of the

proposed electricity design for the particular chosen building in PG.

3.1 Apparatus
In design no apparatus involves but student have to identify component
involved in electrical installation.
3.2 Procedures
The group is required to search for the relevant procedure to carry out
the task. The document must be made ready for verification by the
WAYS & MEANS
instructor during the laboratory activity.
3.3 Data Acquisition
All data gathered and collected during the site visit and observation
must be tabulated in proper format for easy verification and
presentation of the technical report.

4 Results, Analysis and Conclusion

The group is required to submit the technical report consist all the
information needed - highlighting the apparatus used, the procedures
RESULTS undertaken for the task, data acquisition process, analysis carried out and the
relevancy of the set-out output to address the given problem. The format of
the technical report is left to the creativity discretion of the group.
The report must be submitted within14 days after the briefing session.
