EGOISM THEORY

I. VIEW OF HUMAN NATURE

Egoism believes that individual commit mistakes. Egoism assumes that


individual must listen carefully by using the heart to understand things before making
a judgment on what the mind thinks and apologizing on the mistake he/she did will not
loss his self-identity. It also believes that every individual have his/her own flaws and
expertise.

II. WHY PEOPLE GET DISTRESS/SICK

In this theory people feel sick because of the guilt they feel whenever they make
criticism to others and overindulgence on their own capability that sometimes lead
them on distress if they never get what they want i.e. being on top, lose in a contest or
in any competition, etc.

III. WHAT MAKES PEOPLE WELL

To prevent this illness the individual should accept the fact that it is normal for
human to make mistakes and learn to apologize even if it doesn’t needed and every
individual have his/her own weaknesses.

IV. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF COUNSELLOR

The role of the counsellor is to encourage the clients to accept his/her mistakes
and learn to apologize for the wrong deed he/she done. It will also encourage each
individual to accept his/her own weaknesses and that each individual has the ability to
excel in one’s skill. By the process of listening, revealing and clarifying the client's
thoughts and feelings, the skills would be used to enable the counsellor to make an
assessment of all the factors relating to the undesirable behaviour.

IV. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF COUNSELLING

The role of the counselling is to foster change the mindset of the clients to
understand that its normal that people commit mistakes and apologize and that we will
encounter someone that is more skilful and talented.

VI. WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE COUNSELLING

The egoism theory to counselling encourages the individual to learn to


understand the individual flaws and weaknesses. The approach aims for acceptance of
both the negative and positive aspects of oneself. Its main objective is to learn to
apologize and accept each individual differences, flaws and uniqueness.
