These taste amazing and are so easy to whip up!

Katherine · 22/01/2017, 6:34 pm / Reply

I’m new to the vegan lifestyle, I was wondering if

you know of something I could substitute the
vegetable oil with? I’m really trying to cut down
on oils where I’m able but would love to be able
to have pancakes now and then. TIA!

If you are worried about oil you can use

water instead to sauté your vegetables
etc..

Eefje · 28/01/2017, 1:52 pm / Reply

It tasted exactly like traditional pancakes, thank

you for this recipe!

The Buddhist Chef · 29/01/2017, 8:39

am / Reply

Thank you

k · 29/01/2017, 7:33 am / Reply

Try these without the oil at all and see how they
are. Then if you need richness, try adding a
banana or ground flax seed (first mixed with
water).

Bridget · 29/01/2017, 5:28 pm / Reply

Can I substitute coconut oil for the “1/4 cup

vegetable oil?

The Buddhist Chef · 29/01/2017, 6:19

pm / Reply

Sure, I would use deodorized coconut oil

or regular coconut oil if you don’t mind
the taste!

Eliza · 03/02/2017, 9:32 am / Reply

So…I used bread flour instead of all purpose…

my pancakes are white instead of golden, and
more biscuits texture… I suppose bread flour
will not give the same result. I will try again.

Janet arnold · 10/02/2017, 2:14 am / Reply

Can I put mashed banana in these pancakes?

The Buddhist Chef · 10/02/2017, 6:07

am / Reply

I guess so

zedd · 10/02/2017, 8:09 am / Reply

hello, im in france and i am wondering what is

the equivalent for “all purpose flour” here. If
anyone know which one i have to use, you will
make my day. Thank you

The Buddhist Chef · 10/02/2017,

10:41 am / Reply

It’s regular flour

zedd · 10/02/2017, 10:58 am / Reply

thank you

Audrey · 16/02/2017, 5:13 am / Reply

Hello! I’m totally trying all your recipes one after

the other!
Although, I’m on a gluten-free diet. Can I replace
the flour with rice flour and Maizena? In what
proportions? Thank you!

The Buddhist Chef · 18/02/2017, 5:28

am / Reply

It depends on the recipie, but generally

you don’t have to change the
proportions!

juli · 19/02/2017, 1:28 pm / Reply

I followed the recipe to a T and they were so

thick and chewy that it felt like I needed to half
the amount of flour. They were definitely thick
even when I tried to spread the batter out and
tasted and smelled delicious. Did anyone else
have the same issue? I will try the recipe with
half the flour.

The Buddhist Chef · 19/02/2017, 3:13

pm / Reply

You can adjust the amount of liquid for a

thinner batter.

aleksandra · 20/02/2017, 11:12 am / Reply

i love everything by this chef!

Janis Young · 27/02/2017, 6:00 am / Reply

Hi
Can you use coconut flour and coconut sugar as
an alternative to the ordinary flour and sugar?
Thank you

The Buddhist Chef · 27/02/2017, 8:45

It’s worth trying!

gemma fortune · 27/02/2017, 3:02 pm / Reply

Hi, just wondering about the sugar and the all

purpose flour… what else can we use? Great site
by the way!!

The Buddhist Chef · 01/06/2017, 4:01

Hi, you can always omit the sugar and

use another type of flour

Anna mancell · 04/06/2017, 6:50 am / Reply

I just made these ! And they were really good I

used coconut oil in stead of vegetable oil and
coconut sugar

Anna mancell · 04/06/2017, 7:13 am / Reply

I made these for Sunday brunch and enjoyed

them very much, but since it was just me I had a
lot of batter left. Tonight I was feeling inspired…
sautéed some onions, mushrooms and spinach,
added dried basil and oregano to the batter and
voilà… “savoury crepes” for dinner! Thank you
Chef, I am loving your recipes!

Thanks so much for this great recipe. I’ve tried

many different vegan pancake recipes and this
is the BEST one by far! The pancakes are easy to
make and taste great.

I added in vegan chocolate chips for the kids

and the pancakes disappeared in an instant

Keep the great recipes coming!

Perla · 14/08/2017, 3:33 pm / Reply

Yeah, I tried them today and that’s exactly how

They came out. I don’t think they cooked
through. Will try again adding more milk. Have
you tried them again? If so what did you do
different?

Johanna Espadilla · 27/08/2017, 7:08 pm

Renate · 30/08/2017, 4:04 am / Reply

Tried them and they were the best pancakes I’ve

ever made, even my husband enjoyed them. I
didn’t tell him they were vegan though.

Olivia Floate · 18/10/2017, 7:45 pm / Reply

Everyone loved these pancakes and I’m

definitely making them again. I used self-raising
flour instead of adding baking soda and they
turned out fine. Thank you!

Geena · 27/10/2017, 5:52 am / Reply

Really enjoyed this recipe. Thanks for sharing

Jen · 04/11/2017, 9:01 am / Reply

Tried this earlier with wheat flour and without

baking powder. Made two variations of it, the
‘plain’ (based on your recipe) and the other is
with chocolate (based from one of the
comments in the post).

Both turned out really great!! Been craving for

bread for a while now, but I don’t want yeast,
baking powder/soda…

This is the best ‘bread’ I have so far. My plant-

based family loves it! Thanks for sharing!

Jen

P.S.
care to share what is baking powder for?

P.S.2
I’d love to share my blog soon with the great
pictures of my pancakes.I’m still completing the
text. Will share it here once it’s done. Hope you
don’t mind

Lily · 10/12/2017, 11:58 am / Reply

Katherine, facts are very important for women’s

health. Trying to cut down on oils, please
proceed with extreme caution. Better yet,
consult with nutritionist. Good quality oils in
moderation could only be good for you.

Jen Wilkins · 13/12/2017, 9:42 pm / Reply

Johanna – Earth balance vegan butter (soy free)

is amazing!!! If you check the health food section
of a grocery store, you should be able to find
vegan options.

I see you deleted my last message. When will

you acknowledge that you stole this recipe from
me? I posted it on vegweb in 2007!

pancakes-ever-vegan-or-otherwise

The Buddhist Chef · 18/12/2017, 5:14

am / Reply

Hi Stacie, I can assure you that I was not

aware of your blog or your recipe. My
recipe is different than yours but you’ll
understand that every recipe for
pancakes will use almost the same
ingredients right?

Daniela · 25/12/2017, 10:16 am / Reply

Helo Juli, it happened the same thing to us. We

followed the recipe perfectly and they turned
out like a thick carpet of glue. Maybe we did
something wrong since everybody else
succeeded! I made other recipe from The
Buddhist Chef which were great. I think maybe
the proportion of flour/liquid/baking soda
should be different?

The Buddhist Chef · 27/12/2017, 6:57

pm / Reply

Hi, if the batter is too thick just add more

milk

Aimee · 12/02/2018, 3:18 pm / Reply

I just tried this and was so excited, but they

wouldn’t cook through. I already tried to add
more water. Is it definitely baking powder
(britain), and I used a Lidl soya milk…wondering
if it’s not as good. Hmmm. Any ideas?

The Buddhist Chef · 13/02/2018, 9:48

am / Reply

If the batter is too thick, the pancakes will

be too thick and the center might not
cook properly, Try adding more milk!

lee · 13/02/2018, 1:45 pm / Reply

correction buddhist chef. if you are worried

about oil you can cook (boil) the vegetables in
water. to sauté is to fry.

Daniel · 13/02/2018, 5:03 pm / Reply

I did them today. I had to pour more soya milk

but otherwise were so delicious. Thank you.

Sarah · 25/02/2018, 4:56 am / Reply

Delicious,! I have tried a few vegan pancake

recipes with varying success but these were the
best. I used coconut oil instead of vegetable oil.
Yummy! thanks

Nuno Dias · 27/03/2018, 11:21 am / Reply

Hey,

For a whole grain version would you just

substitute the all-purpose flour with whole grain
flour or would you change anything else?

The Buddhist Chef · 03/04/2018, 5:40

pm / Reply

I would substitute half of it!

Emma · 10/05/2018, 3:50 am / Reply

I don’t have vanilla extract is this recipe will still

work?

The Buddhist Chef · 13/05/2018, 8:06

Sure!
