Theory of HDMI

• The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is an all-digital

audio/video interface capable of transmitting uncompressed streams.
HDMI also incorporates Digital Rights Management technology. HDMI
provides an interface between any compatible digital audio/video source,
such as a set-top box, a DVD player, a PC, a video game system, or an AV
receiver and a compatible digital audio and/or video monitor, such as a
digital television (DTV).
• It is a modern replacement for older analogue standards such as SCART or
the RCA connector.
• Versions
– It have different versions release since 2002.
– The most updated one is HDMI 1.3 released on June 2006
– Supports output of Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD Master Audio streams for
external decoding by AV receivers. They are used on HD DVDs &
Blue-ray Discs.
– PlayStation 3 is the first product available on consumer market with
HDMI 1.3

Why we need a HDMI Mux Switch?
• Most of the existing Digital TV may only have one or two HDMI Inputs (平面

• More and more AV products such as (PS3, Blue-Ray Disc Player, HD DVD
Player, HD STB, etc) will provide HDMI outputs (更多的產品有 HDMI 輸出)
